[Misc] Sharp MX-6240 Scan To Email Timing

    Hi folks,

I'm new to the website and the copy machine industry. I've only been trained on Sharp MFPs, but I've dealt with other brands as well since I've started. This is my first post, so I'll try to make it as descriptive as possible.

I've setup a Sharp MX-6240 and everything works flawlessly on it. The only thing that seems to be stumping me is, a few people at the location are trying to scan multiple pages to their company email addresses and they get "timed out" of the scanning session before they can finish. At the location, I spoke with the employee that was having the issue and what he's trying to do is, scan a document through the document feeder, lets say it's a letter. Then he's trying to scan another image, lets say a check, on the platen glass, but he would like both pieces in one email instead of separate emails. I noticed that the confirmation screen that pops up on the MFP's panel that says "Read-End" only comes up at certain times. So my question is, is there any way to get that confirmation screen to come up every time they scan a document? Or is there any way to scan multiple documents from both the document feeder and platen glass into one email?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

If you want the read-end prompt, use the glass.

Checked the op manual and it doesn't seem possible to enable stream-feeding in the DF, or at least it was omitted from the manual.

Use the preview key to build a multi-page job before sending. The key changes to an additional scan button after the first scan. When the last page has been scanned; then you use the start button.

Thanks for the quick reply Akitu!

I've tried scanning everything directly from the platen glass and it seems like only after the third or fourth attempt is when I'll get the "Read-End" prompt. I've went through the operation manual and Sharp website for any further information on the issue but still no luck. I've even stumped the Sharp Technical Support hotline! They're only suggestion was to check the "Maximum Size of E-mail Attachments(E-Mail)" and "Maximum Size of Data Attachments" and make sure it's set to "Unlimited", but of course, those two things were already defaulted to unlimited right out of the box. But what I also noticed (and this may also coincide with the scanning issue) is when I press the "Settings" icon on the MFP's display panel, it will make the screen go white for a minute or so before it brings up the settings.

I don't have a 6240 in my service area (yet) so I can't say for sure, but if it's like any of the other new machines released that attempts to mimic the web interface, the screen going white before bringing up the settings is normal. A small delay may be related to how the settings are stored on the machine. The 4111/5111 machines store their cache data to the SD card as opposed to the RAM, making their screens run slower than their smaller 2610/3110/3610 counterparts. I would imagine a delay in bringing up the settings would be relevant to accessories on the machine as well, a data security kit will add a small delay to almost any and every action being performed.

The email timing out is most likely due to the customer network or the email server rejecting due to a file that is too large. You could check the job log for error codes.
If you are using SSL/TLS encryption, go into the web page, Security Settings and set Level of Encryption to low.
Device Account mode will also slow the display panel pretty severely.

Akitu, I have several of these and the newest Sharps have an 8GB compact flash card on the MFP board along with the SD card, program ROM and the usual DIMM chips. The CF card stores ICU firmware, UI, system setttings, and a bunch of other stuff that was handled elsewhere is previous models.

Im pretty sure you can use Job Build to combine glass scans and feeder scans into one file. I did it with an MX-5111N once.
