    ARM 257 network scan issue

I have an AR 257 with a 10 multi license network scan option. There are only 9 PC's on the network, including the server, and one of the PC's wont connect now. The customer moved from one location to another and it was all working at the old location for about three years ( I set it up in the beginning and as I recall, there were quite a few steps to authorize each pc) but now all of the PC's work except for one. I didnt set up the network, so I havent any idea what there "IT vendor", may have changed, if anything at all. Their IT Vendor is claiming that it is the machine, but I suspect it is the network. Either way, I would prefer that I be the one to fix it as I want the network service as well. That way, I will know what is on their network at all times, making my job easier.

The message that the copier gives when scanning manually from the copier to this one PC is

"Server Access Denied. Check Account Information On Device Web Page."

I have gone to the device web page and I cant seem to find anything out of the ordinary. IP addresses are all correct and as far as "login name and password" I cant find anywhere to even access such info.

When attempting to scan from the Sharp Desktop, the PC just hangs. I got no error message but then again, I didnt wait long enough and I would just force the program to close.

If 8 of the 9 PCs are working, it's not the machine. Give the one PC not working an IP address of one that is working (disconnecting, of course, for the test), and see if it works. I can't remember if that machine had the "Port Control/Filter" settings under the security tab or not, but that might be where the "problem" is located. The test would tell you if the one PC's IP address might be blocked.

If ip address is correct, try hostname. I have recently seen the window firewall start blocking network scanner tool. If both fail, try deleting profile and recreate.

hostname? As in the server, or the copier?

... and why would windows firewall block only one PC? I will check the firewall on this particular PC although, I dont think that is the problem.

... I have considered deleting the profile and starting from scratch, but I decided against it only because it was working a week ago at a different office. All, that has changed ( to my knowledge), is the office location. All other PC's, at the new office, work but this one. DAMN!! I wish they called me before they moved everything and relied upon their IT guy.

Thanks for your reply ... I appreciate it and I will follow up here with what I find.

Re: ARM 257 network scan issue

Hostname = Computer name. Sharpdesk is suppose to notice when IP addresses change, but I do not always see that as the case, so I use the computer name instead of the IP address at times.

The window firewall I am talking about is on the individual PCs. You should find it in Control Panel and you would have to go into advanced settings to check. I have noticed that a couple of PCs stopped receiving scans and that was the issue. A firewall could be in a security suite like Norton.

If PC prints, I would think it would be 1 of the top 2 solutions. If PC does not print, look for power and link light on NIC card.

I suggested redoing the profile, because it should be a quick. If you are using Sharpdesk, I would delete profile, and scanner. I would also make sure profile was removed on web interface. After, create profile and detect scanner. This has also worked when the first 2 did not.

Dump Sharpdesk and program network information into copier itself. Unless they're using OCR frequently, Sharpdesk will just cause more headaches than it's worth.
