MX-620N AR-450ND vs AR-620ND Toner and Developer issues

I am helping a non-profit that has an oversees office. The office has a MX-620N used for printing training materials. They can get supplies in their area, however the local tech support is very poor.

Recently they had light prints and so tech came and replace the drum and the same problem. Then replace the toner cartridge, same problem. Then they thought the toner was bad so replaced the developer. During this time we kept getting FS-02 error code. Replacing the toner cartridge fixed this, but still light prints. However after replacing the developer we got a F2-00 code. After checking it the tech used two bags of AR-450ND ( for a total of 900g.) After checking the manual it is supposed to have used AR-620ND (two 750g bags for 1500g).

I assume first that even if the AR-450ND and AR-620ND are the same material that he would have needed to use the same weight.

My next question is are they compatible if the same weight is used?

Just an update, turns out we replaced the toner motor and the machine right now is printing fine with the other developer and only 2/3 of what is called for. If we run the printer like this will it damage it?

With less developer, your copy quality won't last as long. Hard to say, I've never heard of anyone using 450 dev into a 620 machine. I would imagine they're a similar composition, however.

Thanks for the input. The machine will print around 100 pages before it start saying replenishing toner. Then it will run some more and then throw a F2-02 code. The print quality however is perfect. If I run the 25-1/2 simulations it will clear the code and it will run again. I am waiting for the correct developer to come in so hope replacing it will fix the issue. My guess is it is having a hard time only have 2/3 amount of developer it needs so probably thinks it is low on toner?

You've hit the nail on the head. Although it could also be a type mismatch between developer and toner, if the dev particles are too fine (from the 450) to mix with the 620 toner, it won't mix properly as well. Give that dev unit a thorough cleaning before adding your correct 620 bags of developer.
