The emupdate_f1.sfu I was told to name it came from a very reliable source. I used it myself to correct an A0 error on a 311 in my office wherein one of my stationery clerks ever so kindly threw out my entire MFP PWB complete with EEPROM.

How long did it say "Update Program Init Please Wait"? It may take upwards of 10 minutes to complete the firmware update as it goes and rewrites every single firmware file regardless of what current version is present. If your firmware files aren't reading, it's a crapshoot as to what your actual problem is, if you can get your hands on a used machine, swap out MFP PWB, move the EEPROM from the defective machine to the new board as well, keep the original ROMs. Test and see what happens, if it still refuses to pass that section, replace the ROMs from old board into the new one, if all else fails, contact Sharp directly as your machine is pooched.

Well, that is interesting. I went ahead and changed the filename back to this again and switched the DIP to read from the rear USB instead of the front (I am desperate at this point). It now at least changed to "checking USB device", but has said that for some time now. I am going to let it run until I get back from lunch. I am thinking if it fails I will rename it back to the original filename and try again. I at least have some hope now that I can do it this way, instead of swapping ROMs and boards from the used machine. **fingers crossed**

Well, that didn't work. It did say "checking USB Device " for about 45 minutes (while I was on lunch).

I switched the DIP back to the front USB & rebooted, same message. I'll let it go for awhile and see what happens.

Just for those playing along and bored. I am using a fresh USB drive (nothing else on it), and so far, on the root drive I have every ".sfu" name I have come across. I have also tried the below with them being the only file on the USB drive, as well.

emupdate_f1.sfu
emupdate_p2.sfu
CFRW_MAIN_0400F1.sfu (The original filename)
emupdate.sfu

So far, none of them seem to be working.

**UPDATE**

I got the distinct impression that I was not going to get anywhere with the firmware situation. So, I started with the MFP ROM's from the used machine and put them into the one having the issues. Same problem.

I tried the PCU ROM from the used machine and BINGO, we had motors turning on and just a U2-05 (which I expected). I cleared that and she started right up. Unfortunately it still showed signs of a bad LSU Unit (from what I explained way back on the first page). But at least it booted up. Just for fun, I threw the other PCU ROM in the used machine and it wouldn't boot up either and gave the E&-90 error. So, it seems like it was a corrupt PCU ROM after all.

Now I just wish I could bring the LSU Unit back to life. I am going to try to take it out and look around to see if there is anything obviously wrong, but I am not holding my breath.

Good to hear. Regarding the point about your flash drives, I hope you remembered to format them into FAT32 format and not the default NTSF they're shipped with, that would cause your reading issues as well.

well, that is interesting

I haven't looked to see what format my flash drive is in, but u certainly will on Monday, abs see if I can't bring that other ROM back to life.

I just checked, and the drive I was using, was in fact formatted as FAT32
