I didn't get much help from Sharp, as they tried updating firmware, etc. I didn't get much help with our IT department, as the Network Group sniffed the network ports and the Systems Group made sure no updates had processed on the print server. Luckily, I found your post above and took a leap of faith in trying it on the affected copiers. I had about 12 total copiers experiencing the issue. I have since gone back and disabled the WSD on all of our copier fleet and have yet to have a single instance of unexplained network loss. We are three years into our contract with Sharp, and the WSD service has been active FROM DAY ONE!!! Our IT department has no insight as to any changes that would have caused this to start happening randomly after three years. I was wondering if your IT department shared any insight as to any changes they may have made that would have caused your issues. With 200+ copiers at our location, I really wanted answers as to a possible cause, but have received none to this point.

    Thanks in advance!

WSD normally isn't a problem. It was suggested we try disabling it from a Sharp dealer tech support rep. We have since went in and disabled all unused/unneeded ports on the machines as well. The only thing I can think of is the large number of computers/devices on the same network trying to use those available services causing an overload on the nic and throwing it out of service.

Our mx2610n popped up as a printer when I hadn't installed the print driver yet. The issue is the ms driver for the sharp mfp's is not in windows by default, you have to do an add printer then windows update to get the ms drivers. setup the wsd printer and it does work. the wsd port on sharp mfps appears to be on by default , am not sure about other manufacturers. don't know why the mfp goes offline/no network, unless the port number that wsd uses is being blocked or conflict between standard network printer and wsd printer on pc/server. I have both running and haven't had any issues yet.
WSD is WEB Services for devices, my mistake

The component WSDMON in Windows 7 and later uses WS-Discovery to automatically discover WSD-enabled network printers, which show in Network in Windows Explorer, and can be installed by double-clicking on them. In Windows 8 or later installation is automatic. WSD was developed by intel, canon and microsoft.

I had a similar problem. In the end the IT team had to clear bad print jobs off the servers. People printing from websites caused the print jobs to get stuck on the server print queue. It doesn't happen for all websites.
