Try to disconnect the finisher and remove the dummy punch module and run the machine. The noise seems thesame, that if the finisher MX-FN10 is removed but the RB-X3 paper pass is still connected thesame noise as i've heard with your video. Hope this will help.

I removed the back panel and checked fuses. All are ok. I tested them with a 9v batter and test light. I removed the dummy punch module and ran the machine. Still same error and loud noise. What's next?

The dummy punch unit does not secure the shifter; the Finisher fixing plate locks it in place.

Unit boots up fine but, has an error code I'm not familiar with. I called a service company and they want money to fix it. I do know this unit did not have a sorter attached to it. I attached a short video on what it is doing. Any help on how to fix this problem myself would be appreciated.

            thanks

I know it is a shocker , but service companies are in the business of receiving money for their services. That's why they are businesses, not charities.
Now that I've had my fun with you, try the following:

Power the machine all the way down; sub power then main power off. Plug in the finisher and power main switch then sub power on.
Main is behind the door, sub is on the op panel. If the noise is still there, it is due to the machine not recognizing the finisher as attached and the shift motor is kicking in. As suggested above, remove the dummy punch AND fixing plate, unplug the finisher and boot up; the noise should cease.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

I've actually figured out how to move the shift plate to the home position and sensor. When I turn the machine on it does not show an error code L4-11 but, now it shows F1-00 which is the inner finisher. I'll unplug the fxn9 finisher power cable and remove the dummy punch and try to replicate the problem again later tonight.

                  Re: Sharp Mx-3100 error L4-11

I called the local sharp dealer last friday. Since the hard drive was remove and reinstalled (I did this) and installed the firmware for the machine, the finisher fxn9 didn't work. The sharp dealer says that's a problem with firmware. The firmware once it reflashes is newer than the firmware on the fxn9 board. So, what happens it wipes out the IC chip. He says it's a known bug. Whats needed to be done is to flash the new firmware but have the fxn9 unplugged. Wait till firmware is done and plug the unit back in. Since I didn't know this you can't reverse it now. He was suggesting buy a new PCB board for the inner finisher for $300 bucks. I have tech guys here that can remove the eeprom from the board but, "the sharp dealer says" even if you did do that you don't have the software binaries to flash it correctly. Meaning the sharp copier won't know the finisher is there because no software can be loaded to even know that. Has anybody had this type of problem before?

Sharp can likely flash that board at headquarters. I've had a brand new MX3100 once that came with a mismatched eprom error on bootup. The factory had not loaded the serial number on the machine. The only way to fix it was to take the main board to Sharp and they had 1 guy in Canada that had the "power" to flash it with the correct serial number. I would suspect this to be a similar situation, head tech support for your country may be able to fix it but, a normal sharp dealer would not.
