Retaining scan destination from scan to scan

We've got a customer that would like to know if their Sharp MX-M453N can retain the last scan destination for the next scan, so that they don't have to re-select it.

Basically, they have multiple documents that they scan to the same folder with different (user-inputted) names. So they choose the scan destination, enter in a specific file name, and then press the Start button. After the scan, they would prefer not to have to re-select the folder destination to do the next document that is going to that folder.

Their old copier could do this (not sure what manufacturer...but not a Sharp). They selected the folder destination, entered in the filename and scanned it. They would then just need to change the filename for the next scan to that same destination.

If you enable the "Hold settings for awhile" setting, it just retains things like resolution, 2-sided, file format, etc., but it will not retain the scan destination.

They do this process to multiple folders, so we wouldn't be able to set one as default address and have it work that way either.

Using the Image Send programs (in Special Modes) doesn't make things much faster either.

Anyone have any idea if a Sharp can be forced to retain the previous scan destination.

    Thanks.

I haven't tried it live, but would Job Build do the trick?

I just tried it and it won't let you change the file name between the scans. After the first set of documents goes through and I hit configure to change the file name, it won't allow me to alter the Send Settings (and thus the file name).

I also tried Job Build with "Specified Pages per file" checked to see if it would allow me to change the file name and it did not. Instead, it took the original file name and simply appended "_001", "_002" to the end of the file.

Is the resend not good enough for them in this instance? It's an extra two or three buttons before changing the file name again.

It's a shame we ultimately have to answer to them, because in the long and short of things, I don't think anyone is busy enough that they couldn't spare the <10s it would require to press the extra buttons between jobs.

If someone is too busy to spare 10 seconds, perhaps you should let them get back to their brain surgery.

Not sure if it applies to your model, but some new Sharps can turn this on using soft switches. Once enabled, a new parameter appears in system settings. Its only a soft switch so it's worth a shot:

I agree Akitu, that it isn't that hard to re-select the destination, but the sales guys always promise more than the machine can often do and I get left fixing their messes.

Thanks much Mojorolla. I will try that later today when I get back.

I suppose that's generally the problem. I oft forget how lucky I am to have a salesman who doesn't lie to get sales and actually respects my opinions on what machines to sell. It has to work that way though as when fully staffed we're a team of 3 (2 techs and a salesman) without anyone else to do the jobs for us. We setup and deliver machines, do furniture etc. and kind of just have to work together.

Mojo comes through with another bit switch that the factory doesn't think we need to know about... Think how much better these machines could run if the factory actually gave us a list of what every bit switch did!

I got a chance to test that soft switch on MX-M503N and it didn't work.

I guess the customer can keep doing it the manual way, or they can buy some OSA app that will probably do what they want.

                Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
