this is intermittent. i changed the primary transfer belt and blade since the old belt had wear round the edges. the fault has come back in again.

Check the large gear at the back of the primary transfer belt.

What's your total page count? How many pages since a full color maintenance?

Did you take it off or just look at it? The gear cracks where it meets up with the drive pin, causing it to slip as the housing for the pin separates. Take off the gear and inspect the back.

I took the white gear off and had a good look and it was fine.

The machine has done roughly 100k colour and 110k b/w

i went back today to have another look and noticed the clip on the end of the drum that holds on to the shaft had broke causing the drum to move up and down and also they complained about grinding noises now n then. I changed the drum anyway. We shall see how it goes.

              Hi everyone.
Few days ago same problem came back in. Also I forgot to mention that before the colour registration being out of alignment it's also been making a quiet grinding noise. This is almost only in the mornings when machine is switched on.

I cheated the front door when it was making a grinding noise and I can feel the primary transfer unit was vibrating. Could this be the problem??

Most likely a cleaning blade trouble in the PT1, or a dirty belt feed roller.

Thank you for the quick reply

the 4 transfer rollers in the transfer unit were changed with a new blade too.

When I turn the transfer by hand it turns freely

Maybe something else is making the TB vibrate; run the load test to help isolate the source.
