In working on a MX-3100N this machine seems to have some copy quality issues primarily with the black. The black dev has 3210 clicks and the bk dr has 21,467 clicks. Ideas on what is going on here with the black?

Re: Copy Quality issue
Drums on these machines can wear prematurely but show no visible signs of wear. Try replacing your drum and see how that fares. I'd have to assume the machine has a few years on it.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil? -
Re: Copy Quality issue
Thats true, seen perfectly fine looking drums fail early. The attached pdf is a copy and the original print looked good. I will try swapping in a drum.Comment

Re: Copy Quality issue
I was going to ask if that was a copy, this is a quirk of the machine, If you make a copy of the 64-5 chart (that prints fine) you will have that effect in your copy. It drove me crazy trying to correct the problem. If you look at the 64-5 print under magnifaction, the squares have moire pattern . the scanner or image processing has an issue with the pattern. it does this on most of the sharp color mfps. Just did a copy on our 2610 and the black was funky. I use actual photos from Sharp to test color copy mode. I don't know if doing scanner calibration with the SIT chart fixes this or not. As we don't have the SIT chart, just do the default 63 sim for scanner calibrationComment

Re: Copy Quality issue
Swapping in a drum unit cleared up the patchy black issue. Although how can I darken up that black? Which sim would address that when it seems unnecessary to run through the entire color calib?Comment

The calibration on the newer machines is quite fast and thorough."You can't trust your eyes, if your mind is out of focus" --Comment

Re: Copy Quality issue
Sim 44-2 and Sim 50-22
those are the only two main sims you need for a *fast fix* calibration procedure. If the copies look still look a little light make sure your toners are not to low. Once the toners reach 25-0% copy quality can be affected usually by lighter copies. If this is not the case you can manually adjust them in Sim 46 or in system admin mode under copy settings exposure settings. set your platen and DSPF to number 6 from 5
These machines in nature are usually slightly lighter then most customers prefer on quality why I normally need to tweak them.Comment
