New fuser for Sharp ARM550 w upper oil roller

Just purchased new fuser which came with modification for the arm550n. The upper white cleaning roller was set aside to be installed when received. I installed but thought that it was recommended to leave cleaning roller out because more problem are created with it in. Am I incorrect about that? Is it a different cleaning roller that techs were referring to on this model?

Also just got call on machine which this fuser was installed. The paper stops half the time in fuser and the jam history show pod1_N which is the sensor in the delivery reverse unit above the fuser. The paper has not reached that sensor yet. Is it a timing issue where if the paper has not reached that sensor in time then it registers a jam at that sensor. There were a bunch of jams in history and all with that sensor. I did not even think to look at fuser gear because i had just installed the unit. Also one of the 4 fuser rear follower rollers is worn/damages and does not turn when i manually turn fuser rear roller on the delivery reverse unit. Your advice is very much appreciated. You will definetely want to install the oil roller, if you have the AR703FU fuser. If by chance you have the AR702FU fuser then you can leave it out if you like but I always put it in just because. Most of the time it won't make any difference.

You're POD1_N jams are probably being caused by that roller in the turnover assembly, have seen this numerous times. Real easy to take that whole assembly out and replace the follower rollers or if you have a parts machine just swap turnover assemblies.

    Good luck.

Put the cleaning roller in. The part that caused problems and was removed is on the old style fuser. It was a grid that rode on the press roller. if you don't use the cleaning roller you will end up with black spots. For your pod1_n jam make sure the pressure is on the fuser and replace the exit unit. the heat from the fuser causes them to fail. They have made changes to the follower rollers because they warped.

The cleaning roller that causes problems OP was thinking of is the one from the MX2600/3100/4101/5001. The white oil roller in the AR703 fuser is recommended to use as stated above.

Thank you for all that useful info guys. Why does the pod1_n show up in jam history after jams though paper did not get out of fuser? Frank

The "n" indicates 'not reached' - the paper did not get to POD1. An "s" indicates paper 'stays' or remains at the sensor.

I was not getting the type of jamming that is happening now. The paper just stops halfway in fuserand on way out. Nothing is catching the front edge. It just stops. I then the sheet behind it at transport sensor and last sheet is just feeding from tray2 (LCT). I would have suspected LCT feed but just replaced both sets of 3 rollers.
It doesn't happen every time and actually printed abut 1500 pages between yesterday and today. I thought fuser felt especially hot too touch. On old fuser I had to lower temp. On installation of new unit there was poor fusion and i remembered i had lowered on old unit so i increased temp. Maybe the pressure on new unit was not enough and that's why sometimes paper stops and why originally not fusing properly. Will look into over weekend or beginning of week as always someone at this customer's place. Frank
