I have a 7040 that occasionally gets stuck rendering when printing first set. I posted a thread about this earlier but I wanted to walk away and start from scratch. I switched all computers to PS driver with PS passthrough unchecked as previously recommended. This seemed to help and was proven with my laptop but the problem is still occurring. I replaced the hard drive at the end of today and will do a follow up Monday. I am just hoping someone else has seen this or has other ideas about adjusting driver as Sharp tech support has no idea how to fix this problem. My next step will be packet capture. Any tips on interpreting that will also be appreciated. I just can't believe this is the only machine with this problem and am hoping I missed something.

Re: mx-7040 rendering
not browser print. can be pdf or office at random. unchecking ps passthrough helped a lot but still stumped. customer has mx-7000 sitting right next to 7040 and has no problem printing same files.Comment

We've noticed this with various models/brands. I still have found no definite cause.Comment

Re: mx-7040 rendering
I have seen this also. Our problems seem to stem from web based pdf files. This is not 100% of the time but it happens a lot and I've found that older browsers and acrobat reader versions are the primary culprit. I've gone in and made sure they have the latest and greatest adobe browser plugins and reader version. Helps quite a bit but not a complete solution especially when using older versions of acrobat pro.
Good luck.

Re: mx-7040 rendering
Just wondering if anyone has escalated this issue so sharp tech rep looks at this problem as this is what is going to happen to me? I think they will come and print reports and say the customer needs training from the sharp sales staff. How do I explain to the customer there is a communication problem between old files and new machine when old machine works fine and salesman has gone in and convinced customer there is a problem with new machine?Comment

Re: mx-7040 rendering
Any time I've had rendering issues on any machine I tell the customer to try Foxit PDF reader as opposed to the pile of crap known as Adobe; problems are typically resolved.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Re: mx-7040 rendering
I have had this issue on Polaris machines. 10/24/13, if you don't use Sharp Call Tracking, you should start. This is what my notes say:
Ours started with a .mps file converted to a .pdf locking a 7040 machine. The fix was unchecking the PS PassThrough in the print driver and turn off the WSD port under Printer Port settings. However, if at some point, someone sent a job with PS PassThrough checked OR used PCL, it would lock the machine. The PS was almost immediate, but the PCL would lock up to 40 minutes after that particular job was sent. I saw it render 2 or 3 jobs and then lock out of nowhere. Even though the queue appeared clear, residual data was floating around in the system. SIM 62-17 flushed the remaining data and did not lock further as long as PS Passthrough was not checked. Be sure to clone the machine as the SIM wipes out some network and port settings.
Also in the notes are the SD, CF cards, DIMMS and MFP board replaced that did not resolve the issue so don't waste money you don't have to.
I have seen many of the newer Sharps do very strange things when printing from the web. I always suggest if they can download then print the document, fewer issues will occur.

Re: mx-7040 rendering
I'm also having this issue on a MX-7040. We've tried switching to PS drivers, unchecking PS passthrough, reset the NIC, upgraded the firmware, ran sim 67-17, etc.
We're playing with the spooler settings now to see if we can find anything that works. I'll update if we find anything that gives us some solid performance.Comment

Re: mx-7040 rendering
Make sure you are using the Sharp SC2 ports:

Configure the port to LP and enable byte counting:
