Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
i was thinking of using the rest of the drums that are in the unit now, since they seem to be just fine. was just everything else that is shot... but if im going to order all that stuff and take the drum units apart i should just replace the drum. cheap insurance i guess.Comment

Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
Do as blackcat suggested get the cleaning blades
My opinion why spend money for new drums and belts when you more than likely have cleaning blade problems which may or my not cause the new parts to fail
Sort of like changing oil in car but not changing the oil filter will it work yes but for how long
As the old commercial said " pay me now or pay me later "Comment

I also thought it would be better to buy new drums for the sake of not only being thorough but wise. If I bought new blades and used the old drums, then 30K down the road when I have to replace drums then I would have to replace blades also. Makes more sense to replace parts that wear together at once. Then I only have to deal with replacing them every 60K-100K.
The only thing I am wondering is if the main transfer belt unit (the entire assembly) is already treated with the chemicals? I do know if I bought the belt kit that I would also have to buy the chemicals... It works out being about the same if not just a little more than buying the entire unit, and if the entire unit is already treated and I can just pop it into the machine then it makes like allot easier for me.
After this I'm going to have to service my 507 with a new drum, tc, mc, and cleaning blades. I also believe my fuser rollers are going to be due as they are starting to bubble badly. Which reminds me, fuser roller kit is also on the list for the 2300. It all started with the fuser roller kit and ended up with many other kits.
I'm wondering if I have forgotten anything...Comment

Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
I tried the green cleaning rods and it helped very little. I might open up the machine and manually clean everything, just to get by until I have enough money saved up to start replacing components.
Oh, the black drum kit can it be used in place of a color drum? I know the color can work for all.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
Thanks, but I figured that out in the service manual. Seems that some people who sell the drums have an odd way of advertising that makes it look like there are specific drums. I do have to replace the fuser roller because of the flat spot and I do need to replace the transfer belt because it has a dent in it. So after all this I will have a new machine, pretty much
In relation to performing calibration, there's a user level calibration that may suffice in your situation. It can be found under system settings in copy and print settings under "Auto Colour Calibration" for each setting, respectively. Very likely won't be perfect judging by all the other info given, but should certainly bring it up to a halfway acceptable level. This machine is not known for strong colour quality or even maintaining a proper level over long periods of time.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

I see you took my previous advice and combed through your manual more thoroughly

I read the service manual a little each night before bed now.
I read somewhere on the internet that the colour quality of these first generation MX machines is poor with only a 600x600dpi printing, and the colour is density based. Also that they are the only ones that use titanate power to prep the transfer belt.
Luckily for me I do not need to rely on colour heavily. I only need it for graphs, charts, business cards, post cards, flyers, and things like that. Even those items do not need to be dead on balls accurate for my use, in terms of colour that is. Probably 75% of the time I will be using my 507, as I do allot of black and white prints and copies. The 2300 will probably see allot of scanning and document filing.Comment

Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
use yellow toner instead of buying special powder for lubeing the primary belt- save some $.Comment

Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
I read that somewhere. Do I still have to use the stearic acid to clean it? Do you know if the primary belt unit comes prep'd already, or do I still have to do the chemical treatment? If it comes prep'd already then it is actually cheaper than me buying just the belt kit and chemicals.Comment

Re: MX2300N Cyan Streaks
If you get the entire unit (mx-270U1) it is complete ready to go out of the box with start up powder on it. If you get the kit (mx-270Y1) you will need to "prime" the blade with toner or powder and have to rebuild yourself. You don't need to "clean" the belt under normall use.Comment
