I read online in a manual that there is a way to set up the MX-3501n so that when the paper jams or there are any errors, it will e-mail the administrator. How do I set that up?
Thanks
Go to the Nic Page of the Machine, log in as Administrator... (Look at left side menu) it is under Alerts and Messages. The SMTP and DNS information must be set up as well. Another good thing about the MX’s on the left side of the menu, you will see download PDF’s (toward the bottom I believe) these are the instruction manuals. Everything you ever needed to know about User Operation. If you do not understand where or how to access the NIC PAGE / Web Page. Let a professional do this for you? This will also affect how scan to e mail and fax to email works (Hence the SMTP information)…
If the product key is not installed, this will not work! This feature will alert for maint, toner etc...
E-mail Alert and Status
Enter the product key for using Status Message /Alert
Message on the machine.
Enter the product key with the numeric keys and touch
the [Enter] key
There is also Print Status Monitor with the install CD.. which I never installed as it was just a hassle.. and Windows has this already..
Also be careful with this one....
The alerts will bombard you with emails on Paper Low, Paper Empty, Toner low, Toner Empty, Waste Toner Full, any cover or door opened, Any maintenance codes, Jams and machine status.
Almost every place I have seen setup with this, they have asked for it to be removed, as it can be very annoying to some people.
Tell your client this before setting it up so they know what to expect.
Yes this is a real pain, but hey I have seen people who wanted this, I have disabled this feature many times ( I usually dont tell my customers about this annoying feature ) But it is great for sending a meter count to the office. Which my company does at every machine we can do this with.
We set up the mahines so that the alerts and status goes to a mailbox at work, and not to a customer. Like the past couple of replies, the one customer I set up requested that it be removed.
