why don't you search CTN for smb scanning or win 7 scanning??? There are multiple threads and posts for all brands on this subject.............

What machine is it? Depending on the series it doesn't support SMB 3.0 protocol, and scanning to W7/8 is therefore impossible.

Does the MX-3501/4501 series support SMB 3.0?

Just for yucks i hooked up a MX-2600 i had around and used the same settings i used for the MX-3501 and the MX2600 worked just fine but the Mx3502 still will not scan code CE-00 any ideas?

Did you try exporting your settings from one unit to the 3502 or did you hand enter the values? Just wondering.

From the Web interfaces I copied the values (the old copy and paste shortcuts on my keyboard) (Network path and Username I do not have a password) from the 3501 to the 2600.

Not sure exactly what you are saying about not having a password, but in my experiences a win7 computer needs to have a login password in order for smb scanning to work.
Maybe someone has a workaround but ive always had to use a password on the computer in order for it to work.
A program called ( live essentials ) also has to be uninstalled for the scanning to work.

SMB scanning requires a password. I think there may have been firmware updates for the 2600 series for SMB 3.0, I'm not sure about the 4501.

Re: Need stepbystep instructions for scan to network folder

Here is a bit more details on my project.

I am trying to scan to a shared folder on a windows 7 64 bit. This PC has Windows Live Mail which is part of the Windows Essentials but i am not using the Essential anti-virus part of it instead i am using AVG (non Firewall version) I have setup the Shared folder for "Everyone" NO PASSWORD in the sharing and security tabs giving full permissions. I can see and access the shared folder on the network from other PC's just fine. On the MX-3501 I set up the network path as \\pchostname\Scans, User Name Everyone, Password NONE. When attempting to scan i get Error CE-00

On the MX-2600 i setup the network path as \\pchostname\Scans, User Name Everyone Password NONE. (Exactly the same as the MX-3501) When attempting to scan it goes straight the the shared folder I setup on the PC.

Summary: I setup the shared folder on the Window 7 64 bit PC and can scan from the sharp MX-2600 just fine but not the MX-3501

This is just weird why the 2600 will work but not the 3501. I willing to try just about any suggestion.

I would test using the IP address of the copier instead of the hostname. Once you get it working using the copier's IP address, you can replace the IP address with the hostname and test again.

If you are using the hostname, make sure the DNS settings on the copier are correct (as well as the default gateway).

Like I said, I don't think the 3501 supports SMB 3.0; last I know one of the other guys in my company was testing some experimental firmware from Sharp for the 2300/2700.

Make sure your firmware is up to date to be absolutely certain.

There is some misconception on smb ver.
below is smb ver. from microsoft technet:
There are several different versions of SMB used by Windows operating systems:
                        • CIFS – The ancient version of SMB that was part of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 in 1996. SMB1 supersedes this version.
                        • SMB 1.0 (or SMB1) – The version used in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 R2
                        • SMB 2.0 (or SMB2) – The version used in Windows Vista (SP1 or later) and Windows Server 2008
                        • SMB 2.1 (or SMB2.1) – The version used in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
                        • SMB 3.0 (or SMB3) – The version used in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
                        • SMB 3.02 (or SMB3) – The version used in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 .

also I use a program called netscan, it allows you to scan for open ports on the network. I scan for tcp ports 139 and 445, these are the ports used by smb 1.0 and 2 and smb 3.02 uses tcp 445 and other ports. not sure about port 139 on smb 3.02.

in win 7 for the 3501 (also try ip instead of host name, some older equipment had problems resolving the name)you might have to turn on netbios and allow tcp port 139 in windows firewall , do a search in copytechnet for win 7 scan to folder or smb.
there is a dealer I think called les olson that has a knowledge base on their website and excellent info on scanning to folder with the sharps.

I know on my win 7 home laptop (win 7 pro should be used.) it was very difficult to setup scan to folder, had to turn on netbios , allow tcp port 139 through windows firewall(had to turn on windows firewall) also setup a seperate account on win 7 for scanning with user and password before I could scan succesfully from an older Sharp (mxm350n). win 7 home is very difficult to setup to say the least.

                        FYI,
scanning from win 8.1 and mac osx 10.95 and 10.10 works on sharp 2610n series and newer, only ones I have been able to test so far.

After Vista, "Anonymous Browsing" has been pretty much eliminated by Microsoft. You'll need to have valid login credentials for SMB scan to work properly. Usually what I'll do is create a "Hidden" user for the copier to use. I have a batch file that does it for me, but it can be done manually on "Pro" and higher versions of Windows.

Right-Click "Computer" and select "Manage". Then go into "Local Users and Groups/Users" and create a new user with a generic password. Set the "User Cannot Change PW" and PW Never expires" boxes. Then go into the properties of that user ID, and go to the "Member Of" tab, select "Users" then click "Remove.

Another thing to check is if the computer is set for "NetBIOS over DHCP". If it is, change it to "NetBIOS over TCP/IP"...otherwise it can kill SMB.
