    AL1661 Developer/Toner Leak

We have an AL-1661 which will dump half a teaspoon of extra toner on each copy. The toner/dev cartridge will have developer pulled out of it that lines up with where all the extra toner falls into the right side door and onto the page. Unfortunately all the extra toner has ruined the fuser. We have cleaned the machine up, but closing the door will rotate the drum/dev and toner immediately starts falling inside the machine. Genuine Sharp drum with a remanufactured toner cartridge.

Is this as simple as a new drum and/or developer unit? The lady using it is on a pretty limited income and wants to replace as few items as possible.

    Thanks.

Generally when it starts pulling extra toner, your drum or charge grid may be worn out. You can probably get away with just replacing the drum, cleaning blade and charge assembly as long as it hasn't pulled too much developer. You should also warn your customer that if she wants to be cheap now she'll pay for it later...

Good advice. We will change her drum unit and give her the heads up about using the non-OEM products. She got a GREAT price on these things. She ordered non-OEM toner and drum which have not arrived for $35 each! Wow! But I guess she's getting what she's paying for!

      Thanks for the reply!
