AR 168D Keeps saying laod paper but there is paper in the tray

As the title says. This just started.

I have turned the machine on and off and treid taking the paper out and reloading, etc.

ANy ideas?

By any chance is it looking for paper in the bypass tray? If not, you may have a broken or bad PED switch lever.

No, bypass tray is closed.

I opened the bypass tray thinking I could use it and the same "no paper in tray 1" came up.

Can you point me to how I would replace/check that PED switch?

Test Command 30-1 will test the paper sensors.
You can pull the drawer out and visually check if the switch lever is broken.
If not broken, raise the lever and see if the load paper message goes away.
Perhaps the trip mechanism that allows the paper tray to raise is not working.

I am not sure what it is I am looking for under there but if i hold the tray sensor switch and push the copy button the gears turn but the rod with the rubber pads on it that appears to be operated by the gears does not turn.

Should that rod be affixed to the gear that it is attached to it?

Check paper feed solonoid or paper feed clutch. Ar 168's do not have add paper sensors. If they don't feed you get the add paper .

Ok...

That gear is turning but the bar with the rubber grippers on it that is on the end of the gear isn't.

Shouldn't that be turning loading the paper?

Harleyrider is right, most likely the solenoid is stuck and wont release the clutch which would turn the tires. Much like in a car, the engine is going but until the clutch is released, the wheels aren't turning.

Ok. I hear you but did you watch that video? The gear at the end of the shaft that the "tires" are on is turning but the "tire axle" isn't.

Id there something behind that gear that I cant see or is it just that the shaft isn't attached to the gear for some reason?

2) When the COPY button is pressed, the main drive motor starts
rotating to drive each drive gear.
The pick-up drive gear also is driven at that time. Since, however,
the paper feed latch is in contact with the projection of the clutch
sleeve, rotation of the drive gear is not transmitted to the pick-up
roller, which does not rotate therefore.
3) After about 0.1 sec from when the main motor start rotating, the
tray paper feed solenoid (PFS) turns on for a moment.
This disengages the paper feed latch from the projection of the
clutch sleeve, transmitting rotation of the pick-up drive gear to the
paper feed roller shaft, rotating the pick-up roller to feed the paper.

Test Command 6-1,-2 will test the paper feed solenoid and resist roller solenoid.
To access solenoid, remove the rear cover (I can't remember if something else needs removing too).
The solenoid armature will sometimes get a sharp edge which will make it hard to pull away from the clutch
gears - sand or file the edge. The solenoid might be OK, but the spring wrapped clutch may have to be replaced.

Check the paper feed clutch solenoid actuator doesn't have a sharp edge. See the attached image.

I've seen this on various other models ARM 160/207 etc...
