Installed this machine a week ago and tray four will not recognize the paper size. Did perform the tray four max-min position adjustment in service mode but not reading paper when set to auto-inch in defaults. What exactly is used to determine paper size and where are the sensors located?? Thanks

There are 4 switches in that box. It is a combination of how they are tripped that tells it what size.Comment

Re: MX-M623n tray four not recognizing paper size
I guess I am still confused since the mechanical slider on the paper tray does determine the location of the trip mechanism for paper length. How does that determine paper width also since there is no mechanical link between the side guides and the slider on the back of the tray??Comment

If the guide sees 8.5 length, it assumes the width is 11. If it sees 11 inch length, the width must be 8.5, ; and so on for legal and ledger."You can't trust your eyes, if your mind is out of focus" --Comment

Check the teardrop shaped arm on the underside of the tray. Most Sharps have these teardrop arms and they tend to catch on the frame as the drawer is pulled out. Being that they are geared directly to the size sensing plate, a single missing tooth will throw off size sensing.

Re: MX-M623n tray four not recognizing paper size
Just for everyone's future reference there is a mechanism on the bottom fourth tray rail that reads the width. There is a metal bracket attached to the bottom of the tray that trips this mechanism. In my case the bottom frame of the machine was bent preventing the mechanism from reading properly. I still had to do the tray 4 adjustment in sims in order for the machine to detect size properly.Comment

The trick to get it open is to open the tray a little, reach in and gradually move the side gides, which rotates the gear, until it comes open. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
