    ARm257 Firmware Program problems

Yea unfortunately these ARM257's use ancient serial cables to perform firmware upgrades.

I have an addon serial card for my computer, however I can not for the life of me remember how to properly configure the serial settings or anything to get the firmware program to work. I keep trying to swap my device settings from COM1-4 but no matter what COM port I change my device manager settings to for my serial port the sharp program never sees my machine hooked up via serial cable.

Its been about 10 years since I last did a firmware upgrade on one of these machines I just can't remember how.

Yes I do have the manuals and update procedure however they do not tell you anything about setting up the program on the computer side. Hopefully some ARM237/ARM257/MXM260 techs out there can give me a hand on this issue. Sharp tech support said they didnt have a clue how to configure the ports.

You are using a crossover (NULL) serial cable I hope. Your port settings might be correct, but without the right cable, you won't connect.

If it is a crossover 9 pin cable, then the settings are as follows for COM port 1: Speed = 115200bps / Data Bits : 8 / Parity = None / Stop Bits = 1 / Flow control = None / Echo = Off.
These were the settings for WIN 95 and matches up with my beat up WIN Me.

ok I did finally get the print controller to upgrade . Still working on getting the Finisher/Main unit upgraded. Found out for some reason there is a ARFN5N installed on a ARM257 so i need to flash it to ARFN5A so itll stop jamming.

Here is a screenshot of what I have. For some reason I can not select the Com1/Com3 from my Sharp program even though there is nothing using my com ports. When I switch my communication ports to different COM 1/2/3/4 then my sharp program greys out those ports.

I know whatever it is I am missing is something really small and stupid, just cant remember crap about such old stuff lol.Untitled1234.jpg
sorry the pic is showing far to small here is a bigger version https://www.dropbox.com/s/ihshlpmfft...d1234.png?dl=0

bleh still cant get this terd to upgrade. Any other methods of upgrading the firmware or is serial the only way to flash finisher firmware.

Seems like no matter what sort of cable I have or which COM port i switch to I get no communication between the pc and software. It only shows Copier is offline. I have tried 3 different serial cables.

Sorry, for repeating myself, but it IS a crossover serial cable, right?

needs to be a null modem cable(tx and rx lines on cable are crossed) , rs232c is straight thru serial cable

yea I tried a null modem cable even though the book says RS232C cable still having 0 luck. I am doing my best to try and find a computer running XP maybe its just windows 7 tried it on 2 different pcs though both were running 7 64bit though.

Should have worked with the cross over cable, but I sort of remembered you mentioned an adapter for the serial port, and not an actual DB9 or DB25 on the PC itself.
If so, maybe the adapter needs to be configured first.
