[Error Code] Sharp MX M363 Customer installed a POE... The MFP board and hard Drive failed after.

The customer installed the POE "Power over ethernet". The MFP board failed, I changed that, then it showed the HDD failed. Is there any relation. I am not familiar with POE but but it distributes power over the ethernet cable so you don't have to plug in different devices.

Is there anyone that knows more about POE than me. Thanks so much for any help

found this on the web, basically if there was not a splitter(picker) by the mfp to split of the power from the ethernet, DC current went into the copier thru the ethernet port, don't know if Sharp or maybe Hytec can check the board.
PoE is being used for switches, Voip phones , wifi access points, then the power bricks and ac outlet needed for these devices are not required.

For PoE to work, the electrical current must go into the data cable at the power-supply end, and come out at the device end, in such a way that the current is kept separate from the data signal so that neither interferes with the other. The current enters the cable by means of a component called an injector. If the device at the other end of the cable is PoE compatible, then that device will function properly without modification. If the device is not PoE compatible, then a component called a picker or tap must be installed to remove the current from the cable. This "picked-off" current is routed to the power jack.

Thanks so much for your input... Hytec is a huge help with all of this. I am getting on the phone with them Monday to help solve this issue. (They sent me the board I am trying to install) This post was so informative... Thanks you so much !!

We use PoE switches to power VOIP phone systems. The data AND power run to the phone throught the ethernet cable. This eliminates the need for an AC adapter plug for each phone on the network.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

I am also wondering why after installing the POE that the fax would no longer work? The installer said to buy an HP fax and that would work. Seems like there would be a work-around rather than getting a new fax.... Thanks so much for your input !!!

I've had a problem with POE causing one of my older machines to restart over and over and the data light to flash but when it was wired correctly the machine functioned just fine.
