    Scan to Folder Windows 8.1 CE-00 (NG800000) error MX-C-311

    Hi all,

I had a customer update their computer to Windows 8.1 (NOT Pro or Enterprise). I cannot get this machine to scan to folder. I have done everything I can think of to remedy this. Updated the firmware on the machine, wrote inbound rules for the firewall, Disabled firewall, and Windows Defender, Tried scanning to the IP address instead of the computer name, Created a new user account, new folder...

On the machine I have disabled mDNS, WSD, tried every combination I can think of. I can ping the computer just fine, print just fine, web into the Sharp just fine, There is something blocking the communication from the Sharp to the computer. I have joined another computer to her wireless network and scanned jsut fine to that computer, so I know it is not her router or anything else. Unfortunately, this is the only comuter in her office. Anybody have any other ideas on what it possibly could be?

    Thanks,

    Eric

Are you using Sharpdesk or scan to network folder?

Just scan to network folder...I don't want to have to install Sharpdesk if I don't have to. All she wants is PDF's to save to a folder. It worked before she upgraded to Windows 8.1.

go into windows 8.1 , control panel , program and features, turn windows features on or off, check smb 1.0/cifs file sharing support , also in network and sharing center, network discovery has to be on and file and print sharing has to be on. in windows firewall , go to advanced settings, inbound rules, make sure file and print sharing (NB-xxxxx) are allowed for private network or domain, and file and print sharing (SMB-In) is also allowed. Use a utility like Netscan , do see what ports are available on the mx-c311 , some older products only had TCP port 139 open which is netbios. Then you need to check the network card settings on the pc that netbios is on. If netscan shows port 445 you should be good as long as the other settings are set. Try setting the share on the folder to EVERYONE and give it full control rights, that should work . If not there is something blocking or setting on the pc not set or incorrect password or folder path on the mfp. then you can use a utility like wireshark to monitor comm between pc and mfp.

All the things you mentioned were done...and have been checked I think at least 100 times SMB 1.0 is checked in windows features. One thing I noticed after I posted this. When I go to the run command and type \\IPAddress (\\192.168.254.167) it should display the shares. It goes to an indexing page and displays nothing. If I browse through the network link then click on the computer it displays the shares that were created. I am wondering if that has something to do with the copier not being able to find the Scans folder? I downloaded netscan...I havent had to use that before. I am looking to see if it displays the ports. I can't seem to find where the ports would be displayed...

Thanks...found it and port 445 is active. Still can't get the Sharp to scan to this computer. IT has to be something in the computer blocking the communication from the Sharp. I jsut can't find it. Updated computer. Firmware on Copier, everything I have read on google and other places I've tried....I'm still thinking I'm missing something. Just not sure what it is?!?!? Thanks again for your help....

can you connect the pc to the router via ethernet ? had issues before with wifi , because of speed or the wifi router blocking something ? when I connected the pc via ethernet and not wifi (copier was Ethernet) i could scan ,but when the pc was set back to wifi , no scan. I had one customer upgrade their wifi router to a newer faster router and they were able to scan (pc wifi, mfp connected via ethernet.)

Everything on that Tech bulletin has been successful. Can ping both directions. The WIFI router is the same router with no changes...the only thing changed in this environment is the new computer.

I had a similar issue with Windows 7 Home, and after some research I found that there is something missing from the home edition that doesn't allow you scan to folder, not Sharp specific. If this is not a pro or enterprise edition it probably is missing the same component. Just a thought. Another thought. The other thing I tried was to go to the MFP and map through the panel to scan to external and it would see the computer on the network but would not allow entry to the shared drive. This is related to the above mentioned issue.

I finally gave up...I just couldn't stand to see that CE-00 error come up in the screen again . I told her I confirgured a gmail account for her...set the machine up to scan to smtp.gmail.com. She still would prefer it scanning to a folder on her computer, but I have no hair left on my head to pull out.

                        Thanks for all your help.

remember the pc manufacturer can and does modifiy the OS(toshiba and Compaq from the old days come to mind). Also you can just load Network scanner tool from sharpdesk and send the file to a folder. Have used this several times for customers, that have security issues due to rights or group policies and what have you.

If you want to know why scanning is not working , if you run wireshark it will show the comm between the copier and pc.

Just completely out of curiosity, does the Sharp have it's firmware up to date? I know on both Ricoh and Konica Minolta, they released updated firmware after Windows 8 came out for the fact that Windows changed their SMB architecture to Packet 3 instead of the previous versions. Previous NIB versions had no way to authenticate the user with the new SMB 3 until they updated the machine software.
