    MX3640 Mixed color/black page printing

I placed a new MX3640 in the field yesterday and the client asked if the printer would be able to detect a black page in a color print job and only click a black print for that page. I am pretty sure we should be able to do this but I just didn't see the setting that worked to accomplish this. Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried setting color to auto and not full color in sytem settings?

Yes, the auto color setting is turned on in the copier settings and in the driver color setting is set to automatic. We tested with a word document having a single color page mixed with 10 b/w pages and all clicked color prints.

I know the Machines treat any JPEG file as a color click even if Black and white while using auto mode try printing 2 test pages one in color and they other black font and you will see the machine count each accordingly.

I am not absolutely sure of the answer, but I would say no. I believe it would do processed black. I would think that it would slow the machine down. Every time it comes across a black page, the primary transfer belt would have to change position to black and then go back to the color position on color pages.

If the machine did do it, I think you would be having a conversation with the client with why the machine is so damn slow.

          Those are my thoughts.

If you use a PCL drive it will most likely count them all as color. Try using the PS driver and it should count only the color pages as color.

Also, make sure all B/W settings are for Mono2 and not grayscale.

it works with ps for mac, have church that prints newsletters with color on some pages and other just black and white and it counts each separately(driver set to auto color on the mac os x 10.10.3), also there is readme file with driver that expains this may not work depending how the document is created or that the application may treat the doc has all color(when it has mixed pages).
