    [Error Code] MX-3100N Replaced HDD

Customer at end of lease. Needed replacement HDD urgently. Used one from shop MX-3100N with 5K and running perfectly. Put replacement HDD in our 3100N. Attempted to run Emergency Update. Unit says "Main Program Error!", then "Emergency Prog Init", then "IcuM: ROM Unusual" Tried full firmware re do, stuck in this sequence with or without flash drive now.

Any ideas ? New Roms ?

Are you able to get into diagnostics? If you can, do a HDD format. Did either of the MX3100s have the DSK installed?

Try disconnecting HDD and powering up - you may have to replace ROMs (more likely PROG1 with the boot sector, but to be safe, order both).

did you rename the firmware file to emupdate_p2.sfu, it is best to have it as the only file on the usb drive on the root. Past experince is HDD is bad, corrupt fw or not renamed correctly or bad usb drive ? Main program Error is boot program on hdd is corrupt and em update reprograms hdd, emergency Prog init is update starting and IcuM ROM Unusual is em update program doesn't recognize something in fw (usually file corrupt/not renamed correctly, once had usb drive issue and usb port problem, ) . This should recover the mfp, but if all else fails try replacing ROM 1 as others have suggested, it has the em update program in it and when the mfp is turned on with the usb drive in it (one of the first things done is it checks usb port) with the sfu file emupdate it starts the em update process.

Definitely did not rename the file. I ordered both Roms yesterday. One of the two is the fix. Two different new HDD's same issue. Will wait for the increasingly slow Sharp Parts people to graciously ship the goods.

You can use usb flash drive to up date the firmware. Email me, I will send you free of charge. You might also need to update the watermark. I have that too.

Replaced both Roms today. Rebooted. Same errors. Tried rebooting with HDD disconnected...same. I must have the firmware installed wrong...not really sure how to rename as emu update...?

                  Never mind...I got it.

Update went right through after renaming...

                  Thanks for the help all

You should just do the em update . Make sure it is loaded on the root of the drive. Open file and change file name to. also may use the rear USB port. You may want to check out the manual .emupdate_p2.sfu.
