    Sharp MX2640 Please Wait

    Morning guys,

So I've been called out to an MX2640 which goes has Please Wait on screen and is unuseable. You can get into simulation mode but cant actually execute anything.

I've noticed during boot up that you can hear and see the scanner initializing but no classic clunky sound or movement for fuser startup. I can't update firmware as sims won't execute. Tried to update using the UPDATE switch on the PCU board, no joy it just never finishes. (although it does go through the motions).

So far I've attempted firmware, replaced SD card, RAM, CF card and HDD from another working machine. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

If you haven't tried yet disconnect network cable and fax if installed. mfpc pwb(sd card, memory, network cn) is on left side of copier , remove panels and check if red led is on underneath CPU, denotes possible sd card failure or hdd. Also there is a set of 4 leds on the board that flash during boot, check 7-35 in service manual to decode LEDs. It sounds like copier is getting to copy screen if you can enter sim mode? Replace the mfpc pwb(since swapping mem, sd, and hdd didn't change problem) or remove rear panel and disconnect connectors from pcu pwb, power supply and scanner board) one at a time and or check voltages to find problem. Check the power supply , Sharp had released a bulletin about a faulty coil in the power supply causing issues can't remember if the 2640 series was included.

Try unplugging the wifi card under the control panel. Seen this happen on a few Aries 2 machines.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

Thank you both, a long day of unplugging things and plugging them back in again (including the wifi card which I had not thought of) and it finally let me do the update. I can't say for certain what fixed it but thankyou very much for your help.

Have had the compact flash go out on 3 of these units. Fixed this issue every time.
