Hello I just installed a sharp MX 7001N and it tells me I need a FXX1 fax expansion kit.. My question is can I install a FXX3 fax expansion kit on it instead?

are you seeing this message on display ? if yes someone left fax rom on MFP control board, otherwise no as fax kit on some older MFPs came with rom

Faxman no I wrote that wrong the specs tell me it needs a fxx1 and i have one I hooked it up however I received no dial tone. I have several fxx3 rom and memory can I use the fxx1 on the mx 7001n

The fxx1 is for the mx7001, the fxx3 is for the mxc311 series. the fxx3 will not work on the mx7001 Did you test the phone line with a regular home phone(cannot be office phone has to be analog type phone). A no dial tone is usually a line issue, the line is digital (office line) and the fax only works on analog line.(old style phone line)
