    Replace toner

I have an es4540c that says the toner is empty when it is not. I replaced the toner sensor in the back of the machine and it still says it is empty. It seems that once the chip on the back of the toner bottle says it is empty you need a brand new bottle with a new chip. Is there a way to reset the message. I hate to throw away toner on a machine that is covered by a contract costing me money.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Re: Replace toner

I haven't worked on Toshiba equipment since the analog days, so take this for what it is worth.
Still, ever since Riso duplicators started using RFID chips on the ink bottles I run into this exact problem on those machines from time to time, and here's why:
The RFID chip on Riso ink bottles keeps track of how long the ink pump has run, and has no way to differentiate whether the pump was pumping ink or air. Therefor, if the ink bottles were stored incorrectly they will be considered empty even though there is a significant amount of ink left thanks to excess air in the bottle. And there is no way to change that.
Riso duplicators are very different than the MFP you are working on, so it is likely you will find something very different is causing that problem on your machine. Still, if you can find out exactly what the RFID chip on your toner container is actually keeping track of you will find that useful for troubleshooting this.
