    Toshiba 4511 going offline

I have a toshiba 4511 that is having problems going offline. The copier will initialize the network and work great for a couple of hours. If the printer sits for more than the prescibed 60 minutes it will go on auto shut off. When we try and send it a job it will not automatically come back on. We have to turn it off and back on and let the network initialize. It will sometimes do this with out going into auto shut off mode. It will simply not print. This will happen about 2 times in the course of the day. Any help would be much appreciated.

Try the two following items one at a time to see if one fixes your issue.

    1. Upgrade the firmware
    2. Turn off the power save function so the machine won't go to sleep.

To turn the sleep mode off completely, set the following 08 codes.

    08-205 change to 0
    08-206 change to 20

Let me know how this goes.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

      Response to owl

Thank you for your response. I read your profile and I know that you dont like to be asked for firmware. Do you have any idea of where I can get an updated version for my copier. I bought this copier for my small office and have almost no knowledge in this aspect. I also have no idea of how I would update it if I were to get it.

When you talk about changing the 08 codes. Do you mean turn the machine holding down 08 and then enter 205, then change the 15 to 0?
Any help would be very helpful, thank you again for your quick response.

Maybe it is better idea to find Toshiba specialist in your area. Flashing firmware is not so simple like 200$ printer. Also described problem looks like not for end user solving.

Anyway I would suggest to check if connected to another switch port machine works fine. Or change switch itself. Get latest driver for machine and install it in add-new-printer manner (local printer, printing to IP port, RAW 9100). Set static IP address for machine!

I'll never ask if I didn't check user manual, service manual, parts list, BSI/TNI/TAD... web, existing threads.

You are spot on with the 08 codes. When you have finished entering the 08 codes, you will need to reboot the machine.

As for the firmware, I reckon that someone here would be more than happy to supply you with the firmware and service manual which lays out the update process.

Thank you for the response Owl. Changing the 08 codes didnt do anything except stop it from going to sleep. The problem is still happening. The copier will look like everything is fine on the screen and I will send it a job and it is like it is not getting the information. It will work great if I turn it off and back on and then after a couple of hours it will just stop printing and I cant bring it up with Top Access. If there is anyone out there that has the firmware update it would be very much appreciated. The firmware version is- T350SY0U4006. If anyone has an update and can tell me how to install it would be very much appreciated. Also if there are any other ideas out there I am up for trying something else. Thank you for your time.

You currently have the latest firmware installed on your machine. Sounds like you have one of the following issues.

              1. HDD is on the way out
              2. NIC is on the way out

I can't remember if you tried formatting the HDD. If you have, then try replacing the HDD and restoring the firmware or if you haven't try an 08-690 mode 2. This will format the HDD and you will lose any information kept on it.

If the NIC is on the way out, then you will need to replace it and update the NIC firmware to the latest.

A few more adds, you already have good answers here.
1.Try to initialize NIC back to default. 08/693, you will have to reenter all network related settings.
2.Check if ethernet speed mode is set to auto, sometimes network may just drop off your machine.

Thank you all for your responses. I initialized the NIC back to default and will see if that makes a difference, thank you tbs.

Owl I have not tried reformatting the HDD. If I do this will I have to install any software or will I only lose the documents that I have stored on it? Is all I have to do is enter those codes and it will reformat it? Will I have to do anything else after that?

TBS how do I set the ethernet to auto? I tried looking and could not find something that let me do that.

Thank you all for your time. This is truly a wonderful thing that you people do.

You will lose the e-Filing, Department Codes, Address Book, Templates and Mailboxes.

Once the HDD has been formatted, the only thing you will need to do is reboot the machine and leave it on for ten minutes without turning it off.

Try what TBSERVICE said. If you do an 08-693 and an 08-1119 to reset the NIC, then you won't have to set the NIC to auto as the reset restores factory defaults. If the 08 codes don't work, there is also a reset jumper on the NIC it self.
