    [Misc] e-Studio 453, General

    Hi,

I recently picked up a toshiba estudio 453 from out front of a school yard. I've been using it as a copier, and it works great...but i can't connect it to my network, or computer, or print via USB to use the machine as a scanner, or as a printer. It's locked as a copier.

From my understanding, I need some kind of firmware upgrade on the machine to have it communicate with my computer, so I can use the print and the scan functions?

I carried this thing up 3 flights of extremely narrow fire escape stairs and don't want to have to take it back down.

Toshiba told me that I have to pay some hundreds of dollars to have a tech come to service a 20 year old printer. LOL no wonder these things get thrown to the curb!!!

Anyway, just want to give this thing some love. Would appreciate help.

    Thanks for any advice,
    -S.

That model needs a USB dongle to activate printing and scanning. There is one for each option or one that does both. I believe it's called GM-2060. Good luck finding one due to age of machine.

      Right.

Would there be a way to do that myself though?

Install whatever firmware/software etc. i need on the USB, and plug it into the printer?

I think saw a GM-2060 print scan enabler on our shelves before the break. I'll check when I'm back in the office and reach out to let you know if it's still there.

It's a hardware enabler key in the shape of a usb stick. When you have one you just plug it in and leave it.
