    e389cs Scanner Unit - Lint/fuzz

I have a new e389cs aka Lexmark XC4140 that somehow has gotten a piece of lint/fuzz/ hair attached directly underneath the narrow scanning slit glass. I think it might be a factory defect but it is too late to make a claim.

The customer is complaining about unacceptable scan images.

The scanner unit is factory sealed and costs approx $550.00 Cdn to replace plus a lot of labor to replace.

I prefer to spend neither the money nor the labor to fix this problem.

If I drill a very small hole into the sidewall of the plastic opposite the lint/hair/fuzz and insert the long thin plastic nozzle from a can of compressed air into the same to blow away the offending debris, do you foresee any problems?

I do not think there is any metal in my path.

    Thanks,

    Re: e389cs Scanner Unit - Lint/fuzz

... so I found a dead Lexmark XM1145 that is only good for parts.

The sealed scanner deck is very similar to the one used by a e389cs.

I drilled through the plastic side wall with a larger than I needed drill bit and I could see there was nothing there to block the flow of compressed air onto the bottom of the slit glass to blow away any fuzz/ lint debris.
