I know the E450/452 series have the same lasers, but the E45 wont work in the 450. The 232 is similar to the 230 and they should be interchangable, but I don't think the units are swappable between the E45 and the 232. You might be able to get away with the polygonal mirror and motor though. EMujo

I'd like to know what you find out, even though I don't know of having a 230/2/3 with a laser that failed. Even ours with close to a million on them are still chugging.

Replacing it is about the only option. You can disassemble it (since you have no other option), and clean it out really well including the motor and air bearing with some contact/electronics cleaner and maybe some really light weight oil. But I have tried this before with basically no improvement.

As someone suggested if the parts of the polygon motor are the same on the e-45 (I don't know if they are or not) then you could try swapping it.

It's kind of one of those codes where you tell the customer "your machine has died." You should still be able to get lasers for the 232 but I am sure they are pricey.
