    3511 Scan Contrast

    Hi There,
One of our 3511 recently started scanning very lightly, although copies from the machine are fine (ie. its not the scanner as the same scanner platen is producing great prints)
Been thru all of the settings and the contrast is fine.

Anyone seen this? Is there a way to reset the scanner lamp or calibrate the scanning system?

    Thanks

I'm not sure what you're saying.

Does it print well (jobs from your computer look good) but copy light and scan light? This would be fairly common. Usually, you'd clean the optics and recalibrate.

Does it print and copy well but scan light? This would be unusual.Scanning and copying both use the scanner so usually both would look the same. If one is light, so would the other. So, if this is what's happening, I'd have to think that some scan setting has been changed or the image processing has got a problem.

What happens if you manually adjust the scanning contrast from the machine? Can you get it to go darker?
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Prints and copies fine, scans light!
Yes, I am aware of how unusual this is considering its the same scanner engine for making a copy as it is scanning. Ive checked the settings everything is on auto and doesnt get better/worse even if i moved the contrast (on all three modes) up to full.

Is there a image processing calibration for the scanner side of things?

First thing is first. IMO it is useless to adjust anything until the optics are cleaned. You can adjust scanning defaults under User Functions > Scan. And there are more adjustments that can be made if those two thigns don't do it.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

Why clean the optics if they are producing quality copies? The optics are not the issue and the user scanning defaults have been verified and "played with" without change.

There is no calibration specifically for scanning.

I checked Toshiba's tech board and found no similar instances.

Other than scouring the 05 and 08 codes, I would look to SLG and SYS boards.

All I'm trying to say is I would not address any type of image quality issue without first making sure my optics were spotless (including wiping off the lamp.) I did not see where you stated that you had cleaned the optics so I suggested doing so. If you still have not cleaned the optics then I still stand by my suggestion to do so before moving on to any adjustment or component replacement.

We started having this issue with another 3511 and I cleaned the platten and the scanner assy.

Its made a world of difference, going to try on the other machine tomorrow. Seems a very fine build up on toner on the mirrors that was not visible to the human eye was causing it..

Will follow up when I get a result on the other..

Still makes no sense why it copies OK!! must just be higher contrast
