Alright, I have a customer who has gotten this machine off auction. They called me out to get this machine running. I had to clean out the optic sesor that reads there is color toner in the machine. That was fun getting to that. I did many other things that a copier requires. Cleaned feed tires, and cleaned the optics. I then networked this machine to their computer network. When printing I have no issues. The copy looks crisp. When I scan off the glass the copies are washed out. This would make me believe there is something wrong in the scanning portion. Has anyone ever seen the scan lamps go out on these machines? Or am I totally off base? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pull the laser and clean it. This machine is bad about getting the laser dirty, especially if you have moved it.

Before taking anything apart, try calibrating for copying. Go to user functions and look under the general tab in Admin or user (it can be in either) for calibration. Choose copy and calibrate. This can make a big difference in scan quality.

Also clean the mirrors and the lens as this will cause light copies but good prints. I have replaced the ccd unit also once but that was a long time ago.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Finally the customer is in their office. I will be going out today to check these items. I will keep you all posted and thanks for the ideas.

When you clean the optics on this box (and I would clean EVERYTHING, because it gets real dusty) you may have to have the customer perform the auto calibration SEVERAL TIMES for it to affect the machine.. I don't know why, but it sometimes seems to take days or a week for the machine to recognize that the optics are clean and start functioning properly. This is with latest firmware and I've had it happen on (at least) 3 boxes I know of so far. On two of them, the customer was either having RED or BLUE scan lines when scanning, that would only clear up over time after I cleaned the optical cavity. I was ready to go out there and replace CCD's or the Scan Board, but at the last minute, customer told me it was fine... cannot explain it, but this seems to be the case on this machine...

Thanks to all for your help. I did the auto calibration twice and the machine finally cleared itself up. This is what happens when you pick up ald equipment at auction. The customer was satisfied.
