This is a Service Utlity gmail account that I have created in case the customer has no input on how to set up email or their main ISP seems to work inconsistently.

I now think you can use either SSL on Port 465 or StartTLS on Port 587. You might need to use the alternate if the first does not work. Also I now think Auto is a better choice than Plain for Authentication.

You need to enable SMTP Client, enable SSL (Accept all Certificates with CA), SSL/TLS (Over SSL), SMTP Server (smtp.gmail.com), Authentication (Plain), Login Name (Create your own at www.google.ca), Password (Create your own), Max Email Size (25 MB), Port # (465).

I usually use port 587 with the other settings the same. Well, I do usually use "Auto" under login type. Of course you have to make sure the DNS information is correct on the copier.... Hmm, not really sure if you have all of that in there. Probably something on the customer's network as you stated. I have one account I use as a "service" account so sometimes in a pinch I will use that for the customer....

What is handy if you can't get the customer's e-mail info because they have no clue is to setup them a G-mail account. Then you can change the primary e-mail in g-mail to the customer's real and it will send them a e-mail you click the confirmation and it will look like all messages sent came from their "real" e-mail and the reply address will not be whatever you created in g-mail. Wow that sounds confusing.

Would you mind detailing how you set it up in GMAIL.

I was able to get it to work in my office but when I first attempted it in the field, I get a "cannot connect to to SMTP server" error message in the Scan Logs.

I am wondering if the perhaps port 465 is blocked somehwere in the Router. I checked the switch and I have turned off DMZ.

Non of the machines I work on support SSL (at least not to my knowledge) So I've never gotten it to work.

Only E-bridge2 202L-3510c family MFP's that can use SSL/TLS canbe setup to use G-Mail. The E-bridge1 200L-4511 family MFP's do not have the ability to use SSL/TLS settings.

    started a topic GMAIL

    GMAIL

Can anyone advise me of the email settings in Top Access for GMAIL.

    DNS Server
    SMTP Server Address
    Authentication
    Log in Name
    Password
    Port

Can I just create a free GMAIL account for the customer and fill it in under the Email/ Internet Fax tab in Top Access.

If it makes a difference I am located in Canada on the Atlantic Coast.

Are there any problems using GMAIL that I should know about?

    Thanks,
Working...
