Place your Copier in the DMZ

Does anyone think putting an eBridge 3 copier using VXWorks as it Operating System, ouside the Client's firewall in their Router's DMZ, at unacceptable risk?

I understand client's with IT staff will not permit this but many of my client's have no clue as to how to configure their Network and just want scan to email to work reliably.

If the copier is outside the Firewall in the DMZ, could anyone potentially scan for and then browse to the IP address of the copier. What would prevent them from seeing Top Access and start playing around with the Scan Paths and Address books? Unlike the Admin Password, these functions are not protected.

You can limit the IP addresses that can access the copier to several different ranges or even just a few. Of course if they are really determined they can always get around anything you do. But that is something available to you. You can also turn off HTTP access and turn it on only when needed or put it on a different port which might help some. I think the IP filters are probably most powerful here though.
I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

Well, if done correctly.... but.... I wouldn't do it. I can't tell you how many times I've heard of Fiery's hosting porn web sites because they got hacked.
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.
