I'll start by saying this MFP does not belong in a print shop, but you know the sales force......that being said, MFP has 230K copies, only 15K are black. Latest firmware, and all update patches on Fiery Controller. After dealing with constant calls for copy quality and PMing the EPUs for the 5th time I decided to just replace everything to get her off my back for maybe a week or so. Installed brand new CMYK EPUs, and brand new xfer belt assy. Fuser was PMd aound 200K so it looks great. Following my 3510C color trouble shooting guide, I set the MFP up to perform its color cals frequently, ran 04/237 for half tone check, MFP print and copy calibration, followed by Fiery calibration. Ran around 100 test copies, full color, and all looked fine. Next day, of course, she's calling for CQ issues again. 5000+ color job, 2-sided and intermittant mottled color on areas with a high percentage of fill. Has anyone found any settings/tips for making this box work better on extended runs? I am about to go "postal" over this and her "it used to work when we 1st got it blah blah blah" comments. Thanks for preventing a heart attack for me in adavance. Emujo

I have a few of these in "print shops" with over a million color copies. First off, have you done the conductive grease mod. It involves using a very messy black grease from Toshiba and putting it on all the connections inside the transfer belt and under the TR2 roller. Also replacing the facing roller inside the transfer belt helps and make sure to apply the grease to the bushings. I have a customer who calibrates the machine before every job she runs.
Or sell her a Cannon -
Of course first off, PAPER, PAPER, PAPER! If she is running 24lb bond paper, it won't ever look good. Especially 2-sided. Another thing I run into, is the IT people, or the customer keep adding the printer icon without the Fiery. Or they don't use the proper set-up in the fiery.
The T/S mod is very important.Comment

Apart from epu's, the biggest cause of CQ issues for us is the TR assembly.
Yes, do the conductive grease, but make sure you use e4520 series tr1 and drive rollers and a new belt, and make sure the mod kit is fitted.(new rollers bushings, conductive bearings, tension springs and earth plate) The rollers are Fluorine and rubber coated and dont get dirty like the alluminium ones.
If doing a long run, there is nothing much that can be done to improve the consistency of print. These machines simply dont hold a consistent colour through a long run. Some customers that know this issue will only do a run of 50 at a time.
We have upgraded customers to e 4520's that have wanted to do this sort of work and these machines have performed brilliantly. They have a much better IQC system and will maintain colour consistency throughout long runs.

I had a similiar problem with a 2500c. There are adjustments you can do for the 2nd transfer bias that can help, especially on the backside of a double-sided copy. There was a bulletin for it. Also, is the area of poor transfer worse on the front or back? There is an adjustment screw up under where the yellow epu goes (you need to pull the yellow epu out to see it) and it's similiar to the belt adjustment on the 3511 series. The screw should be flush with the bracket it sits in. In my case I needed to adjust the transfer offset then adjust that screw to be flush to get whatever poor transfer was left on the front side.Comment
