    281c TopAccess HTTP Port Dies

I have a 281c that works fine. Scans are fine, printing is fine, copying is fine. No complaints.

The issue I have is that the TopAccess manager dies within a day and the machine is no longer accessible via HTTP. It's a bizarre problem, because the copier still works and if the HTTP service is disabled then reenabled, the service comes back up, but will die again within a day.

I have done a firmware reload (many thanks to a gracious member of this board for his assistance) but the problem persists.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you try the 8080 port? sometimes, give error, when you only places the ip address or the name, but if you put the port in front Ex: 192.168.1.1:8080. the topaccess work fine.
You could also try to make a reset to the NIC, but I think the problem is in the network or the Computer.
Did you try with various computers or only one?

Both port 80 and 8080 are down when this happens. Network appears fine because it still responds to pings, and it's definitely not related to the computer, since the machine is no longer responding to ANY computer on port 80 or 8080. Sometimes with a 404 Not Found, sometimes, it'll just close the connection.

Other possibility is the HDD. There is quite a bit of data stored on the HDD and if it has a problem, it can snowball down into other functions of the machine.

Try formatting the HDD or replacing if you have the option available to you.

WARNING: Formatting the HDD or replacing the HDD will erase all data such as address books, templates, e-Filing etc. Make sure you back this data up correctly before doing either of these procedures.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

          Nope

Replaced HDD, Formatted it, reflashed firmware, reset NIC.

Still happens... usually about 16 hours after the system is boot up, while it is sleeping, the HTTP port will die. And now, oddly enough, when I go into Admin mode on the console, going to the Test screen to ping anything will lock up the control panel forcing me to switch off power without going through a proper shutdown. This lockup only occurs AFTER the http port has died. If I access it when everything appears to be good, it seems to work fine.

The copier seems to be operating fine otherwise... perhaps don't worry about it??

Additional information... I was wrong when I said the copier works fine otherwise. No network function works. Locally, the copier will still copy and scan, but attempting to scan to a network location will fail, and the copier is no longer available via the network as a printer.

Try resetting the NIC back to factory default. There are two ways of doing this, but the best way is to swap the jumper on the NIC called OP2 or FACT then turn on the machine until the lights on the NIC start flashing between Green and Orange. You will then need to turn the copier back off and replace the jumper back to it's factory position.

This will blow away all NIC seetings, so you will need to setup everything again via the machine and TopAccess.
