Toshiba e-Studio 450 Firmware Update issue.

    Hi all,

I'm having an issue updating the firmware on an e-Studio 450. We replaced the hard drive on the machine and downloaded the firmware w/ instructions from our supplier, but I am getting errors when trying the firmware update.

If I copy just the rom.bin file from the rom-bin directory and start up with 4-9 then it says "Error, replace usb device".

If I copy the contents of the 350-450 file to the USB drive (formatted as FAT - not FAT32) then start up with 4-9 it tells me that it's initializing and after about 3 minutes it stops and says "Infalte error, please change USB strage"

I'm not sure what's going on here. We followed the instructions for setting the HDD partitions first, and the copier starts up but TopAccess does not appear, yet I can set the IP and ping it. It also will not print any lists or other info from the control panel.

This copier has print, scan and fax installed if that helps.

    Thanks!

First what size thumbdrive are you using? Anything over 1 gig will be an issue. Next which version was on the machine and which version are you going to?

I posted the steps I do to replace a hard drive a while back but here they are again. This works on almost all of the Toshibas

    first replace the drive
power on in 3 & clear
    option 3 start
    power off machine
load the firmware on the usb drive (depending on version depends on location)
insert thumbdrive with all the enablers unplugged
    power on with 4 & 9
    wait and wait some more
If the existing version is the same as what I am reloading then only do the os, hdd, ui on some versions there is only o/s and hdd.
If they are different then I select all
    wait for it to finishes
    power off
    remove thumb drive
    power on in 0 & 8 mode
    947 start
1119 start (check this can be different ) for Nic init
    690 - 2 start
power off and wait 20 seconds
    replace the enablers
    power on and check

on some versions of Toshiba firmware it needs to be loaded in a directory and other version it needs to be in the root some upgrades need to be done as rom-bin first and the rest afterwards.. Check the the install instructions that comes with the firmware.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Good info Mr Spock...don't forget the drive must be formatted FAT, and there can be nothing else on the drive (like U3). Emujo
