e230 firmware update troubles with USB

Having problems I believe with the USB drive.
e230 has ver.300. Attempted to upgrade to 370. Does not recognize my Memorex 2GB, 2.0 and would display "Please Set Correct USB Storage Key".
Picked up another USB 2GB Staples Relay and when starting copier using "4/9", the screen just displays "Download Storage Update Mode Please Wait...now Initializing" and never comes out of it.
Tried a 3rd USB 2GB Kingston Datatraveler, and the same initializing screen and never comes out of it.
** I did remove the u3 programs from all 3 the USB drives, Format and set to "FAT",
** I tried a new 80GB Hard Drive (no difference).
** Swapped the PWA-SYS PCB with no difference to the symptom. *Don't have an e230 PWA-LGC to try.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to what might be my problem?
Do I need a specific brand of USB thumb drive? I could not find anything smaller than 2GB.
    Thank you for you inputs.

    Firmware instructions es230 series

Attached are the instructions for updating the firmware.
When these machines were launched the typical usb drive was 128mb. So you will have to find something that works. The 2gb drives seem to work fine for me.

Hey Meach, thanks for the instructions. I already have them but they do not help me since the USB drive seems to be the problem.
I would like to know which brand USB you use that is not giving you a problem and if it has been used to update on an e-studio 230.
I have used my Memorex on multiple Toshiba models and never had issues till now.

When you try the update, do you get the 0-6 on the screen, but no info? This can be resolved by not using the folder, and just putting the files on the root of the drive. I did a 280 a few weeks ago with a 2 gig drive, other than "made in Taiwan", no brand name on the drive. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

          Hey emujo,
I am placing the 6 white files directly to the root (without the yellow folder).
Also never makes it to the 0-6 screen.
I am attaching a picture of the screen it hangs up at.
IMG_2604.JPG I have tried leaving it alone and when I come back a few hours later, it is still at this screen.

Make sure this stick does not have the mentusb.o in the root. This is an e-bridge 1 unit and I don't think it will work with that on it.

Hello Claudio, I am using a memorex 2 gig for this machine and it works for me. I've tried others but for this machine, the memorex works.

Thanks to all you guys and for testing your memorex usb (ameritech).
I am coordinating some tech support from another tech who has several brands of USB drives.
If we figure something out I will return to post what was done.
Another Question: If the USB has been formatted to FAT & ran the u3 remover, would the "mentusb.o" still be there?
I don't know what mentusb.o is, but when opening the drive, there is nothing there.

mentusb.o MUST be there it tells the machine that there is firmware on the drive. And YES the files MUST be in their original folders just off the root of the USB.
I have had similar issues with USB drives on these models. I was once told the max was 1GB and have had no problems with any brand at or below this size. Never had anything larger than 1GB work.
However, I have had to 'trick' the machine into getting some to work properly. Make sure you have any USB dongles removed from the system. Power down, remove them, power up, then power down, insert your stick, and initiate the update. I have had to insert the USB stick with the machine on to get it to recognize the stick, then shut down to initiate the update.

The Firmware upgrade has been done and it is now at 4006.
He had an old Memorex 128kb USB drive and it did the trick.
He first loaded the ROM.bin file from the 230_280 yellow folder and not the Rom-bin yellow folder, which surprised me (so why is there a Rom-bin yellow folder if you can use the Rom-bin from the 230_280 folder?), anyway, after upgrading the Rom.bin, powered down and then did the rest of the files except for the NIC since the NIC gave an upload failed. Otherwise everything else uploaded OK.
I guess on this machine a 2GB drive may or may not work, but it definitely worked from a 128KB drive.
Thanks again to everyone for all your help. Have a great weekend.

Basically the same as the 230, with the exception that you need to put the MENTUSB file on the root of the jump drive along with the folder 352_452 files. Emujo
