Toshiba E-studio 351c (Need Direction on replacing Hard Drive)
We have a machine that needs to be returned to a leasing company and the customer would like for us to replace the hard drive. I have replaced it but.... the machine does not see the new one.
I use 160 gig hard drives for 351C models. If its the right size you will need to check the jumper settings on the hard drive. Set to master or cable select (CS).
Also you will need to start the machine up holding C and 3 , Then select option 3 to partition the hard drive. You might need to update the firmware, but if it boots up ok the only thing you will not be able to use is e-filing.
Hope that helps.

Reason: spelling, grammar
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.
Thanks. We were able to Partition the drive. When it says completed. Is there another comand that needs to be done? We had to power it down and back on to clear the partition screen and when it attempts to read the drive it says "can not find HDD data".
As for updating Firmware..... I am not an authorized Toshiba dealer so we are winging it to be able to give the customer their data back.
Let me know if you can think of anything we can do from here.
Mr Spock is right. On these models you need to install the firmware to get it up and running. Any data on the machine (e-filing, department codes, address book etc) will be lost. The only thing which will be kept is the IP address.
Most toshiba engineers can update the firmware should carry it. You will need to obtain some firmware as i can't give it out.
If you do get some firmware i can explain the firmware update procedure.

The machines operating system is loaded from the hard drive. If you are updating the hard drive you should really update the whole machine. I can not give out firmware but other people on this site might do.
Some Toshiba models, an Es-350 for example will run with no firmware on the hard drive I think, but it will stop you from using the e-filing function.

Starting with the es350 family you need the firmware reloaded. The last one that did not was the e45/35/28 family. On those you format the hard drive and machine worked.
