It is a communication error between the scan logic and system boards. Easiest thing to do first would try and upgrade the firmware. Check to see if the machine updates the firmware.

I have the firmware. It's not free though.

I do not give out firmware or manuals. I do not know how much manuals4you will charge.
If you update the firmware and the scan firmware fails, could be the scan logic board. If the firmware will not install at all it could be the system board.
Make sure the usb/pen drive you use will work on the machine when updating the firmware. There is a procedure to follow when updating the firmware also, which I can help walk you through.
