When you replace HDD, the next step is to prepare that hdd for loading firmware.
From documentation "Clear the partitions on the HDD.
    1. Turn the power ON while pressing [3] and [CLEAR] button simultaneously.
    2. When “Firmware Version Up Mode” appears on the LCD, key in [3] to select “ 3: All Partition
Delete and Create Loader Partition. ” and then press the [START] button.
    3. When “Initialize completed.” is displayed on the LCD, clearing of the partitions is completed.
    Turn the power OFF.
Update the master data using the USB storage device."

You'll need firmware for specific machine. Then you save that firmware on USB stick, put stick into machine, and turn on while holding 4 and 9.

Re: toshiba e studio 2500c hard drive replacement

You need to start with a blank, unpartitioned drive. The MFP needs to do the partitioning through the 3/C mode. Once complete perform a logical format 08/690 then load firmware. The only data you must load is the HDD and UI info, but you can install all. If you have he most current firmware and the MFP was never kept up to date then you will need to either perform the updates step by step, or try to find the version you are at. Emujo

I realise this is a very old thread but I'm trying the same, the only issue is the firmware I have is slightly older than what's on the printer. Can I downgrade without bricking it? It's a 2555cse
