    E-Studio 353: Will not send E-mail Scans

    Hi guys,

We put in our third copier in these recent days (E-Studio 353). I tried setting it up with two different e-mail accounts, both being used on our other two copiers (500 series) and working fine. First I tried our dsl email account, then I tried out gmail account.

At first, I was getting an error that the sending failed. Now, it just gets stuck on "Wait" in the status screen, without sending the email. I've also tried a yahoo account to no avail. Any ideas?

PS: To set up the e-mail, I login to the user webpage, go to Admin -> Network -> SMTP Client -> Configure the settings -> Save. Then go to Email -> put in the email address.

Does machine have usb stick on the right - back side? Read what is on it - to scan it must be GM-2071 or two usb with GM-4070 on one of them.

I'll never ask if I didn't check user manual, service manual, parts list, BSI/TNI/TAD... web, existing threads.

press scan button and see if it changes to scan menu. If not then the scan enabler (needed for email scanning) is not installed.

Are you using the correct port number? are you using the name of the server or the ip address?
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Under your network setting is the gateway ip correct?
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

          To the 3 questions/comments above:

          1) I don't see any USB sticks on the back, or right side =/

          2) Scan does go to the scan menu and im able to scan to email but then it gets stuck on "Waiting". The port is correct, as I've tried two different emails that currently work fine on our other copiers.

          3) Network settings shows our Server as the gateway, same setup as the other copiers so it should be correct.

          Thanks guys

My thoughts..if it was scanning but now has stopped, and you truly do not see any enablers (should be a small cover close to ethernet port, look like usb thumb drives), then the MFP may have been in "trial period". After 60 days this will turn off and can't be reset. There should be an error history with an alpha-numeric code..if you can post the code we might be able to help...other advice..with your laptop configured the same way as the MFP, can you telnet into the mailserver? can you ping the mailserver? Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

I found the usb stick! It was under a plastic cover I had to unscrew. I believe it said GM-2061 (or 2069).

yup, looks like it's 2061, not 2071. But would it let me get as far as setting up the email and selecting to scan to email before failing if it had the wrong stick?

A GM2061 is the Print/Scan option for that model so you should be ok. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed since the GM2061 only works with firmware version 320 or higher.

Anyways it sounds like your settings might be the issue.

Make sure your using the same settings on the 353 that you are on the 500's. Also gmail uses SSL and port 465. Lastly check make sure you have DNS settings on the 353.

The settings are the exactly the same for "SMTP Client", so I'm not sure it would be the settings.. How can I check/upgrade the firmware? Thanks

What about DNS settings? Do you have the same DNS information on the 353 that you do on the 500's?

Also make sure you have the same email address on the 353 that you do on the 500.

At the web page, login as administrator, go to setup under the administrator tab, under setup go to email and check the FROM ADDRESS and FROM NAME make sure they are the same as on the 500.

The copier wouldn't give you the ability to scan if the firmware wasn't up to par with what the GM needs by the way. Since you are able to scan to email the firmware is ok. However you could check the firmware version from the copiers web page as well, its under the ADMIN TAB->Setup Link->Version Link

Thanks for the reply. DNS settings are the same, email is the same, from address and name the same.

Are you scanning to an Internal Email Server like an exchange server or are you scanning to and external provider like Gmail?

Good news! When you mentioned checking the dns, I said it was ok but really i just took a look at TCP/IP and saw the subnet, ip, etc info all correct. The problem was, DNS Session was blank. I set that and it's working great, thanks!
