[Misc] Dialing 877 Numbers from E-studio machines

I seem to have several clients who are having troubles dialing 877, 866, 800, numbers from their MFP's. If you hook up a cheap stand alone fax, it works fine; try dialing from the MFP you get an error code, most of the time 00B5.

    Anyone else having these problems?

I had this code the other day. I could recieve a fax no problem, but could not send them. This was an Es-451c (All four machines in the building doing the same thing). The fax cable went to the server, then out from there. I could dial out and in to the machine no problems (using the monitor button and dialing/calling to and from my mobile). I have passed it over to the customers IT department as the machine seems fine. I am still waiting to hear back from them to see if they have looked into it more and got there line checked. We are thinking it could be something to do with the server.

The other code I was gettin was 0050 (Line busy) but the line was not busy. Not the sae fault but the same code. Good luck with it, Il keep a look out for the fix. I hate getting fax related problems.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

This is a stand alone unit, no server, and yes I've had the same 0050 code also. Using the monitor button does get the ring and handshake, but when you push send it gives you comm error or the 0050.

Strange fault, might possibly be a line fault. I am sill waiting to hear back from IT with the server being involved. I couldn't try another line as all through the server.

Why do you say "with the server being involved"? This would indicate to me you are talking about a fax server...If so I would expect that outgoing faxes do not work as this is not what the analog fax bd in the Toshiba is designed to do. Clarify for me if you wouldn't mind. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

Re: Dialing 877 Numbers from E-studio machines

I am not very experienced in the IT side of things. My company insists we know as little as possible about it. Hence I am looking to pay for my N+ or relevent qualification.
Back from my rant... The fax connects to a network cable, then to the server where it goes to an external line as far as I am aware. This is different to Toshibadale's problem as his involves no server.

With you being a experinced tech with IT to emujo. What network qualifications would you advise me going towards to help with this job?

A+ and network+ are helpful..most manufactures have some kind of accepted basic networking program, but nothing beats OJT!! I am far from an IT expert, but I do know how to get my machines working (print, scan etc) and most of my knowledge has come from being thrown into "we don't know whats wrong..but you have to fix it" situations. Looking at tech forums like this one and others that may be more brand specific is a huge tech asset. You can bet if you are seeing it now, someone else has already "been there, done that" and hopefully posted a fix. Mainly, don't be afraid to get into this side of the copier biz.. if you have "network specialists" ride with them and watch over their shoulders. It only takes a few full blown installs to get a handle on things. Copier techs are a dime a dozen...techs that can fix the machines and hook up the "total solution" are much harder to find (but the numbers are going up). When your onsite, look at firmware levels, driver versions, and get them updated. If you customer has a scan or print enabled MFP but is not using those functions, ask why..offer to set it up..it only makes you look better and your company will profit by it. Emujo

First thought on both issues is to check the wall polarity of the fax line.
Use a 2 line cable not a 4,6, or 8 line cable as this increases noise.
Check and make sure the country code is correct.
As to the 877 numbers have the customer check for blocks on these from the telephone company or phone pbx unit (depending on which you have).
Some 877 numbers ask for a "customer pin/code" to dial.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!
