    Estudio 450 call for service

Have an estudio 450 that will start to boot but will stop with the display sreen showing
"call for service" The total count is on the right side of the screen . On the lower left is the picture of a wrench and the copier. There is no error code. And the service maual does not address this condition. Kind of hard to clear an error without knowing what that error is. Right now I am considereing firmware at the least. Or a bad main board at worst. Any ideas of where to start other than those two conditions? I did get into service mode to clear maint counts and that dd not help either.

Have you tried pressing clear + 8 ? Or checking the error history afterwards?
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

Yes tried that first. And no message just the same screen. Not even beeps from hitting the keybuttons. Even tried the yellow clear all and the 8 keybutton.

Firmware seems like a good start, then maybe the hard drive.

With Toshiba, the error codes and the sims are in the service handbooks.

              turn machine off
              open front cover
              turn on while holding 0 & 8 (holding 8 & 0 does not work)
go to 08-253 and look at error list
any c4## do the fuser reset procedure
any f1## replace hard drive and reload firmware
check 08-900 and if the last digits are not 4006 then upgrade the firmware anyway.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

You are probably getting the key sequence wrong, "C" and while holding "C" press 8. If it gets to the call for service screen, it will display the error code. I had one customer call in and say I've got a 247556 error code...pulled my hair out looking up the code before I got onsite and realized it was the total count. In addition I believe the 08 mode will allow you to have the code pop up w/o need for pressing c/8. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

I've had the total count error code. Funny how customers all over do the same things. If one more customer tells me they cleaned the slit glass and the line is still there, and I get there and they cleaned the other glass, I may break down.

Well went back today with the suggestion to open the cover and then enter 08-253 mode. When I walked in the machine was working. They had called the people that sold it to them. It didn't seem like a good idea to stick around and ask a lot of questions. I don't normally work on Toshibas. We took over a company a while back. He sold a few around town. This was not one of his sales.

I did a stint in the work control part taking customers calls and logging them. I had healed enought to start doing calls. Spoke to the guy who had lines on his copies only from the doc feeder. I asked if he had cleaned the slit glass. He thought I was dumb (its unproven at the moment) and clearly stated that he had ofcourse cleaned it. Next day I went to the call and there was tipex on the slit glass. I cleaned it off and asked the guy (who I spoke to on the phone) did you clean the slit glass or get asked to clean it? He said 'No, the guy I spoke to never said anything about a slit glass or cleaning it'. Then went on to complain how bad the company was, how much if his time we have wasted by having to come out to sort this problem. Then how bad the machine was as it does not clean tipex of the slit glass itself. I did not tell the guy I was the one he spoke to on the phone, as the customer is always right, right?
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

OK, I'll bite..what is "Tipex"..(guessing the UK pronounciation of White Out (Idiot ink..liqued stupid..) Used to work at Home Depot and a Brit came asking for a sheet of "Perspex", sent him away saying we dont carry it..turns out it was plexiglass. Lost in translation I guess. Emujo

It is correction fluid. I like Idiot Ink though. Might start using that when I tell them its their fault.

All you guys in other countries talk funny. To an Aussie Durex was sticky tape, to a Brit a condom - the list goes on. Had a customer with bllack on scan in a fax. Most abusive when I arrived. I suggested it my be correcting fluid, received a mouthful, opened it up pointed to correcting fluid and said "looks like a bird shit right in your fax" No further problems.
