    [Misc] Toshiba maintenance - stop

Hi guys. I was wondering if a toshiba copier can be set to stop all functions ( copying/printing) when it reaches it maintenance cycle. Many customers won't understand that when the service key is on and the copier has reached its maintenance cycle it needs new parts. They see that the copier keeps working and when it comes to trouble from not replacing the maintenance parts, they complain about the quality of the copier. I try to explain to them how it goes, but most of them dont' really understand it. I am talking here about the estudio 163-166-167-207-233 series.

You know, after working on Toshiba for over 10 years, and then making the switch to KM, I was really suprised when we found out that the KM products come to a complete halt when PM items hit their lifespan. Now KM has released firmware to make them run past the stops..I think this is a good thing, since I no longer have a down MFP waiting on an imaging unit because the customer only calls in when the MFP is broken..very few customers will actually place a service call just because "some little LED is blinking, or msg pops up". If you really want to stop the Toshiba at a certain point, enable department codes and put the PM value as a limit. When the limit is reached, the MFP will be unusable (Unless they reset the limit). I really don't think it's that good of an idea, but in a nutshell....

Department codes allow the administrator to control specific copier operations. For instance they may want to allow unrestricted B&W copies, but disable unauthorized access to color, or they may want to allow color, but only to a certain limit say 1500 copies. They can be modified to force anyone wanting print or copy jobs to input a password. If you log into top access (web interface) or through the control panel you can set these codes up here. You can also set the MFP up to allow scanning and outgoing faxing w/o codes. The only reason I say it's not really a good idea is most users don't want to have to spend that extra 5 whole seconds putting in a password. Emujo

Ok. I get it, most of it. But still, for my case specific : can it be set so the copier stops when it reaches the maintenance cycle? For example, i set it to stop when it reaches 80k from the last maintenance. The copier stops, and i must type a password or something to enable the copier to work again. I'm looking for a easy way to do is, so it does not bother the user very much. Like the copier works normal, just like before, except the fact that when it reaches the PM value specified by me, it stops . Can you point some specific steps to do this? I see you are very experienced with Toshiba so feel free, please, to give away any advice that crosses your mind.

if you want to try it..turn department codes on, create 1 account and limit that account to 80K. Instruct keyop to place service call when limits are reached...perform PM...reset counter limits. Everyone logs into MFP with that account. Emujo

Hi emujo. Just one more question. Every time the copier starts, the password for the account must be entered? Same thing if it goes into energy saver mode and exits? Or the code must be entered only one time when the customer turns on the copier?

yup...user would have to log in each time...even if they forgot to log out, the MFP would reset after a few min. Emujo
