    [Misc] Clearing Hard Drive

    Hello All:

I have an E-Studio452 that I am returning next month. I have asked the people I got it from howto clear the HD and they keep telling me that they will do it after it is backat their shop.
I would like to clear the HD myself if anyone can tell mehow it is done.

                Re: Clearing Hard Drive

Couple of tips...unless you are storing images in the HDD user boxes, or using secure print, there is not really anything of any use on the HDD. Most bigger companies (Toshiba should be one of them) offer free sanitizing. The only time the customer should be charged is if they want to dispose of the HDD themselves..this requires a new HDD and a reload of firmware. A hour of labor and the cost of the replacement drive (and you will have to pay more for a drive from the company) is fair. If you are not doing any of the above types of printing a simple format will do...08/690 will erase address books, user box images. Any thing else is stored in RAM and will be gone at power off. I'm sure someone will disagree with me, and I would agree that a highly skilled hacker might be able to recover something (nothing less than a screwdriver through the drive and into the furnace is absolute) but unless you're a banker, doctor or DOD the "my hdd has info still on it" scare is just that, an attempt to get more money from you. IMO Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

I will give this a shot as soon as the new Copier arrives...

If you are really concerned, ask for the HDD to be removed and given to you prior to it leaving you site. This is the only way to totally ensure you are in posession of your data.
We have had to do this for a number of clients.
This does render the machine unuseable so expect a charge.
