e-Studio 550 - The Copier Unit Cannot be Detected. No Printing!

    Hi All,

I have a customer with an e-Studio 550. Up until about a day ago, it was printing, scanning and copying with no issue. This morning it will not print. I have rebooted the copier a couple times, but no printing. The print jobs go to the copier, which shows them in the job log as DELETED rather than COMPLETED like the previous jobs.

The scanning and copying features work correctly with no issues. Looking at the admin webpage I get this error "The Copier Unit Cannot be Detected. Please power cycle the copier." We have, but it's not changing the error.

Is that the source of our printing issue? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Depends...the 550 had 2 print options..the GA1140 (printer only, and this was divided into disk and diskless) and the GL1020 (print/scan). An option for adding scanning to the GA1140 was also avaiable..so if you don't have the GL1020 then yes, the printer board could be the problem...you could try pulling and reseating the print board..It could also be software on the controller has become corrupt..if so you may as well throw the MFP away as the update process required a Win 2k laptop, and a parallel connection to reload...not too many of us have that stuff anymore. You may try a mom and pop Toshiba dealer. They may still have what you need. I don't remember seeing that error message on the GL controller...usually "please wait..controller is starting up (or shutting down). I would not think that the GL would be able to scan but not print. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

        Emujo,

It's the GL1020 board that's in the copier. I'll be on site tomorrow, I'll check connections and such and see what happens.

        Thanks,

        Scott

The GL1010/1020 is like a tower computer (pretty big). The GA1140 is an internal board.
To reload software on the GL1140 (as Emujo stated) you need a computer (it may be a desktop too) with win98/win2000 and a parallel connection from the computer to the copier.
For the GL1010/1020 the process is much easier. The software for the board is loaded from CDs - the unit on the copier must have a CD ROM drive. If it doesn't have it, it's easy to install one (pretty much like in a regular computer). Once it's got the CD drive you just put the disks inside it and the process is automated.
I have the system software for both boards - the GA1140 and the GL1010/1020.
