E 451C Printing lighter than copying

I can't seem to find anything obvious to account for the fact that this machine makes beautiful color copies but prints like it is in toner save mode. Aside from cranking all the individual adjustments, am I overlooking something obvious? Like a preference setting, or perhaps a toner save mode somewhere? It's hard to imagine the print being washed out and not the copy.
    Thanks

Have you went through all the print calibrations?
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

Yes I have and it prints beautiful test patterns and never errorred out when I do copy and print calibrations. The prints are all grainy and lack boldness. They are using the PS3 driver. I am going to bring my laptop and print USB to see if there is any difference in drivers. I replaced a E3511 with this E451 and the old one prints much clearer and bolder. It's gotta be one thing. The copies and test patterns are perfect.
I went through all the 05-395 stuff to no avail. Nothing seems to matter. No errors, washed out prints.
      Beautiful copies and test patterns.
