E-Studio 35 Ca1 error where to find a laser unit

I have a Toshiba e-studio 35 with the Ca1 error. My tech guy says the firmware is update and he has had the unit apart in an attempt to fix the laser unit. The printer will power up fine and the controller will connect to our network but after running a large volume of copies through the service message will return and the printer will need to be re-booted. He said that at this point the only way to correct the problem is to install a new laser unit. However, he is not able to get the laser unit from his supplier. Can someone please point me in the right direction to purchase the laser unit. This has been a good unit which I own with a low print count that I would like to continue using at our business.

    Thanks,
    Brent

I have one but they're not cheap. Consider upgrading if you can.

Would you be willing to sell it?

I do not have it any longer (have not had one in the field for a couple of years now) but there is a panasonic or ricoh polygon motor that with the latest firmware will bring it back to life.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Hello, I trained on the first school on this model when it first came out. As of March 2012, this model has been discontinued for parts..I've dealt with dozens of CA1's on these over the years and have only had to replace the laser once or twice. Toshiba had an update kit but they are no longer available. Try this, put a longer screw in the ground screw hole of the laser pcb.. It is very small and very short. It would not keep the laser unit properly grounded to the pcb. I have an old Kyocera hdd that had the same screw size but longer..I probably did describe this very well.but I fixed 20 or 30 doing this. Let me know if you have questions and I'll be more descriptive

Thanks so much everyone for your input in this thread.

Our service provider came out and cleaned the laser motor, adjusted the ground screw, and also cleaned the fuser roller. He indicated that our machine has the upgrade kit for the ground screw. The machine is so far functioning correctly. The service provider said that he is not willing to purchase and repair the lsu if the motor needs to be replaced and is instead trying to sell us a new Toshiba 455se 2 drawer unit for $4,500 + $1,100 for the finishing loader. I would love to conitinue using the Toshiba E-studio 35 but with tax season coming up I cannot afford to be out of a printer. Our copier only has 200K copies on it. Would it be smart for us to continue use with it and replace the laser motor on our own down the road? Or simply avoid the hassle and upgrade now?

Replacing the laser is a far cheaper than $6,500.00+
While I agree its an older machine. If he doesn't want to replace it, find someone who will.
Granted, they wont warranty the part but its not that hard of a job to get it going again.
Would you buy a new car if yours was repairable, and the mechanic didn't want to fix it?

Yes, you are correct gregg, we pay $300 a year for our service contract which includes toner. The company even advised us that the part was soon going to be unavailable but why they did not anticipate this problem and get it then is beyond me. My guess would be that they are going to lose money since the cost of the LSU alone is more than what we paid for the contract. If the error presents itself again then I will be in touch regarding the lsu.

I Understand. But a basic P.M. would cost the same, and its not your problem if they lose money on a service agreement.
be careful. sounds like your getting the runaround to me. If they cant honor a agreement for fixing your machine, that's under contract by them, regardless of the cost. I would be wary of purchasing anything from them.
