I have e-Studio 166 got problem, when power start up clucking and making sound inside. Any idea guys?
thanx.
We need much MUCH more details to help you solve this. Narrow the zone from where the sounds come and maybe we might give you some usefull hints. Test the main motor , i can't remember exactly the code for this (04-101 maybe???), listen carefully and maybe point to the zone from wich the sounds come. Btw, how many copies has the machine? When was the last PM made? What was replaced? Previous error codes?

There is no error code, counter reads 187817, I make maintenance every weekend (cleaning and checking etc.), replaced the drum and fuser roller on May2012, the main motor looks okay, previous error code on fuser "C44" last week was reset already. This will not print or copy now, there will be a continuous sound like gear losing its way to the other. I can't pointing out as of now, but the sounds coming from the right side portion when facing at the developing unit. Btw, I pul out the main drive assy looking for gears, looks all gears are pretty ok, just asking for the gear Item No.: 9, Part number: 6LE56639000, Part Name: ASYS-GEAR-5H56L-6-COUPL on the parts list found lack of teeth, is this intentionally? any idea please?

From my experience, the e 163-166 don't really have gear problems. Anyway, not from the main drive assembly. My guess is that you are having a developer unit problem. After a while, the end of the magnetic roller axe starts to wear itself and the belt that trains the gears of the magnetic roller has rotation flaws. I had this problem around 200k copies for many toshiba e 163-166 copiers. If that is your problem, change the magnetic roller, change the belt and clean all the gears. Pay attention for the adjustment screw at the other end of the mag roller. There is a second solution to this problem : if the mag roller axe end is not badly worn, you can put another screw in the plate that covers the gears, near the bearing of the mag roller axe end and opposed to the other screw that's holding the bearing, to further support the bearing of the mag roller axe. I'm not sure if you understood my explanation ( my english isn't top notch) but other coleagues know what i'm talking about and can give you further assistance. Anyway, if that's the problem, of course.

Thank you savi0r for the response, the problem is not on the developing unit you meant. One gear was found on the main drive (one gear is turn by the main drive motor directly) that drives through fuser unit was broken. It was found that the fuser gear unit is too hard to turn causing that gear two of the teeth broken. Now, I replaced the Gear on the main drive and temporarily release the spring a little bet of the fuser unit to decrease the pressure of the heater and rubber roller of the fuser unit. Any idea please to solve the spring to hold it on a full without compromising the pressure of fuser heater and rubber roller of the fuser unit? Thanks.

You can't. There's no adjustment for the springs. The same goes for the presure between the fuser rollers. It's standard. I've worked with many e-163 e-166 but never seen this problem. Something is wrong with the fuser if it causes gears from the main motor assembly to fail. Are the rollers ok? The gear on the heat roller looks good? The bushings are set ok? Is the fuser properly greased?

The rollers are fine, but I will double check tomorrow and all gears and bushings. What is the appropriate type of grease that will use properly to this gears. I have only triflow (teflon grease) and lithium grease is this good for this gears? Thank you
Re: Toshiba e-Studio 166 clucking and sounds at power start up!
I'm using electrolube high temperature grease and works great. I don't know about the grease you mentioned. You must check if it rezists high temperature.

Thank you savi0r, I'm using triflow grease also high temp resistant but it is not for plastic gears, I used this grease to lubricate fuser fan bearing for my printer KIP2000. I saw electrolube grease on ebay it is more or less AUD$35. I will update you sometimes for the result of triflow. Thanks
