Toshiba 3510c - E712 error - Which roller to change?

    Good afternoon all,

I have a 3510c that is having problems feeding paper through the RADF.

The pickup roller lowers and appears to move the paper fine, but when it hits the separation rollers, it doesn't always go any further - hence the E712 error. If I copy about 50 pages, I might get this problem every 10-15 pages.

I have checked the registration sensor, and it appears working, the paper just never reaches it.
I have tried changing 05-354 from min to max and nothing seem to stop this behaviour.

The weird thing is, if when the RADF door is open and I manually rotate the separation rollers (I grab the pulley that the belt is attached to on pickup roller and gently rotate) without touching the paper, the paper will go through, so the paper seems to be in the right position.

The other weird thing is, if I do the standard jam fix; open RADF door, clear jam, close door and start copy again, it will 99/100 times jam straight away again - but if when the door is open, I rotate the separation rollers, like I detailed above it will not jam and take paper normally for a little while until the next error.

So I was wondering if anybody is familiar with this type of error, or can suggest which roller I need to change, or if there is something else I need to fix!

    Thanks,
    Sam

    edit: I'm pretty sure it's a MR-3018

Not 100%sure,but my guess is that there is a flat spot on the seperation tyre and probably needs replacing

ss12 is spot on, the Sep Roller will have a large flat area on the tyre, possibly the Torque Limiter may need replacing also, there was also a mod bulletin for a change in the Sep Roll Pressure Springs, I don't believe that mod made any difference, the cheapest way out is to replace the roller when required.

        Thanks ss12.
Does that mean I need to replace? Or is there something to fix a flat spot?
If I need to replace, should I replace both?

        Thanks.

You'll probably get away with replacing the tyre part number is 6LE50243000

I agree its the Separation roller that goes bad it normally gets a flat spot on it. Usually the other two rollers hardly get any wear on them. So by just replacing the separation roller you should be good.

              Thank you everybody.

Just to confirm, I should change the roller that drives the paper, not the 'dumb' one underneath that just spins? (see attached)

(I am in Australia and I can only get local parts from Toshiba and it takes a while, so I just want to be sure)

There are 3 Rollers, 2 of which are in the assy shown (item 1) which are interchangeable, one is the Pickup the other is the Feed, the one you need is the Separation Roller (not shown) however if you remove the Feed assy, the 3rd Roller will be visible, remove it and the Flat areas will be revealed.

                P.S. i'm in QLD.

Hey fellow Aussie. Thank for the help.

Do you mean this roller? - the one that doesn't have any drive to it?

That's the one and the white roller next to it is the Torque Limiter.

                      Sweet thanks CanonBundy.

Just one more question if you have the time, since you mention the Torque Limiter - I didn't know what that was before.

When I cleaned the rollers, I noticed the Torque Limiter looked like it had about 2-3 cracks cracks in it - it looked just superficial to me, so I didn't worry about it, but since you mentioned it earlier, could that be causing/contributing to my problem?

Well the parts finally arrived from Toshiba, they were on backorder.

However after replacing both the Torque Limiter and the roller next to it as suggested, the problem still remains.

Has anybody got any further tips or insight in to this problem?

                          Thanks.

E712 is one of the most common errors I see on these ADF, most common problems is someone removing staples and the pages sticking together or just poor originals in general, if you've seen it with good originals, it could be a sensor issue, but most of the time it is due to bad originals jamming when being picked up.

Thanks for the reply, but the originals are not to blame. They can be freshly printed, and the same issue occurs.

What sensor are you referring to in the RADF?
